JinJiang Inn - Pudong Airport
by yujinn
We'll be arriving at Shanghai on Jan 9, 11:45PM and leave for Beijing the next day at 11:50AM. We plan to spend the night at JinJiang Inn nearby. To those who has stayed there, I hope you can help me with my concerns:
1. Will they accept check-in at past midnight? I tried calling them directly but I can't get through, and their website is not very helpful.
2. Where is it located? Is it really walking distance from the airport? I've searched on the net and found no location map for this inn.
Or..
Would you recommend to just spend the night at the airport? if it is allowed that is.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, Jinjiang Inn is the leading chain economy hotel chain in China and I know the Jinjiang Inn Pudong Airport has a sister hotel now, called Jinjiang Inn Pudong Airport II, which is even closer to the airport within 5 minutes' drive, or 15 minutes' walking distance. The address is No.850 Pudong Jichangdadao (Airport Avenue)浦东机场大道850号. You'd better call the hotel for confirmation at 8621-68853886. If so, I think the hotel might confirm this late check-in. The hotel is of the latest generation products and wonderful equipment and facilities, and CHEAP. Enjoy your stay!

Are you also flying out of Pudong airport, or are you flying out from Hongqiao airport?
I don't think you can spend the night at the airport. The hourly hotel won't be open by the time you arrive, and the seats in the common area are made of cold, hard metal. Hardly comfortable.

You'd better stay overnight in a hotel nearby Pudong airport. In case your flight to Beijing departs from Hongqiao airport (as usual), the next day, you can take the No. 1 shuttle bus at Pudong airport directly to Hongqiao airport (every 10 mins). Otherwise, you don't need to move anyway.

I just called the hotel. They say they have 24 hour checkin. Ten minutes by taxi from the airport so that would be about 20-30 minutes walk. Taxi should cost 11 RMB (about 1.5 U.S. dollars). I don't recommend dragging your luggage around that area in the dark. It is semi-rural and not well-developed away from the airport proper so you might get lost and end up sleeping in a cabbage patch or behind a warehouse. Often the Website booking system for hotels in China is not well developed or monitored. I have found a few hotels whose Website goes through all the motions of booking your room but it is really a farce. When you arrive, if they have a room available, they say "Sure, we have a room booked for you!" If there is no room available, they say "Gee, we didn't get your booking. Must be a glitch." But if you stand your ground long enough and stay in their faces firmly but gently, they usually give in and move furniture around in an office to convert it into a make-shift bedroom. It's the stuff that makes a great story for your diary.
Is it too much to ask why you booked a flight to Shanghai if you really intended to go to Beijing?

Probably a stopover flight package or similar.
Also, the taxi flagfall at 2345 will be 14 RMB, not 11 RMB.

Just got back from shanghai/beijing. The first person who greeted us at the Pudong airport exit was this cab driver who asked for 1000 RMB for him to take us to JinJiang. haha! silly.
Anyway, A decent-looking guy approached us and offered an overnight stay in their new hotel, 400RMB, 2 rooms for the 4 of us, with buffet bfast and transfers. We were apprehensive at first but took the risk anyway. Good thing it was for real and the hotel is just 10mins from the airport.
Had a great time in China!
Travel Tips for Shanghai
I think if you come to...
by alexia_lin
I think if you come to Shanghai for a couple of days, you absolutedly have to go to the Bund which is situated along the western bank of Huangpu River, especially in weekend night. It will be very impressive because the lights are all on
! What the interesting thing is that you will feel you are in the across of new Shanghai and old Shanghai when you are walking along the Bund. The reason is that the other side of Huangpu River is a new area called Pudong which no one would like to move to few years ago,but now,Pudong is the hottest place in Shanghai, even in China.Oh,by the way,the picture which is on the top of this page is Pudong.
My friend took it on the top of a resaurant near the Bund,it looks fantastic, doesn't it? :)
Chic Stores and Restaurants
by nomadig about Three on the Bund
Three on the Bund is a newly developed collection of eclectic fashion shops and restaurants just next to the Bund. The ground floor hosts a few high-end stores, such as Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, ready to drain your wallet.
The place is designed with an edge, especially Giorgio Armani's store is a worth of visit for the interior only. Browsing through the fares is free, so why don't you drop in?
There is also an art gallery on the upper floors that provides some cheap thrills. The restaurants are gourmet orientated, so the price is higher than in Shanghai in general.
BBQ beef slice
by conniechong about Bongka Korean Restaurant
Korean bbq, with variety of beef slice seasoned with different sauce, stoned rice, ginseng chicken soup(rice is well hidden inside whole chicken chest)
Dining place is not so spacious, generally ok. Salad is always my favorite, with black sesame sauce to replace unhealthy mayonese, with sweet potato, indeed a sweet surprise.
There will be waitress who do the grilling for you. Wrap the beef slice with raw vegetable leaves, before that, dipped with sauce plus chili paste, hhmmmhhh....
Do not order oxtail soup. Too creamy, and the smell of it when soup is cooled is too yukky...
Quaint but hive of activity!!
by albaaust
These gardens are located in the Old City and include a nine cornered bridge, mid Lake Pavilion and other Chinese style buildings.
This was actually a quaint and interesting place to visit with its ornate buildings, alleyways packed with small shops and "teahouses" over water.
It is definitely a favourite haunt of the local and Chinese tourists. It was packed with people eating at dumpling restaurants scattered or shopping throughout the complex!! This is also the place to buy shushan stone carvings. Don’t forget to look at the basement area under the main buildings beyond the walkway.
There are also some interesting shops across from the entrance to the gardens.
Shanghai, worlds capital
by jpizquierdo
As far as I know , this is today the capital of the world.
Visit the antique market, you´ll find nice tapestries and decor small objects.
Be aware that shanghainise people are rude, if you are waiting for a taxi, you stop it, and they will take it. don´t expect any king treatment, you will be only a number...But Shanghai worth it. Great nightlife, restaurants, antiques and fake market.
