Farmer Country?
by rabbit06
Even Shirley is not sure of the name, but a small village with one main street, somewhere between Shanghai and the West Lake near Haining, we stopped at a resteraunt for one of the best lunches i had enjoyed in China!!!! The free range chicken was just so delicious, oozes with flavour, falls apart, melts in your mouth and you cannot stop eating this untill there is nothing left!! Best i have ever eaten!!!!
Soft Seat
by Mez77
Our return from Hangzhou was in Soft Seat class. It cost an extra Y15 each (Less than US$2), but was well worth it. The carraige is more spacious and everyone has a seat. There are even lace doilies over the backs of the seats. We found the people to be much friendlier and some even spoke some english. (We did attempt some pathetic Mandarin). The old man sitting opposite us kept giving us food and we explaned to him in very bad mandarin that our tummy's were happy and we were full. An excellent journey.
morning walk on the bund
by marora99
A morning walk on the bund is very refreshing. I went in december and the cool air would blow across our face. The ocean view is interesting but not beautiful because this is a port and the water is filled with ships and heavy cranes lifting boxes onto the ships. There are groups of people performing movents sychronized in perfect harmony. A sight to see for a vistor.
Yu Bazaar.
by Guantanamera
Yu Bazaar was for me one of the most interesting districts in Shanghai... Although these buildings are not as ancient as they look, they do create a wonderful and memorable fantasy of what historical China might have been like... My only critique is that the place is much too touristy, with dozens of souvenir shops and the like... But it's like Venice, what can you do about it...? Just enjoy...
Shanghai Museum - Ancient Chinese Sculpture
by Willettsworld
The exhibits here, dating between the Warring States period and the Ming dynasty, reveal artistic styles of Chinese sculpture in different periods. The most attractive sculptures are Buddha statues with different styles, such as simple and delicate Buddha statues of the Northern Wei, elegant and vivid Buddha statues of the Northern Qi and the Sui dynasties, gorgeously shaped and full-bodied Buddha statues of the Tang dynasty, and novel and secular Bodhisattva of the Song dynasty.
