How far from the Bund and Nanjing Lu?

by anoum

Can anyone tell me how far is the hostel below from the Bund and Nanjing Lu?

Blue Mountain Youth Hostel in Shanghai, China
2F Building No1 1072 Nong QuXi Lu.

Hi, I have been to the Bund and Nanjing Lu several times during my visit to shanghai. They are not too far apart. If i remember correctly, there is actually an underground pedestrian passing from the BUnd to one end of Nanjing Lu, within 15-20min walk. Ask around when you are there. There are policemen (gung an) everywhere. Otherwise, take a cab. The cabbies are professional and they issue official receipts upon payment.

Nanjing Lu ends at The Bund.

I have not been at that hostel but a goggle search found it is near Metro
Line 4 Lu Ban Road stop. That metro stop is not very near The Bund and Nanjing Lu. However you can always take the Metro to get their but you will have to change from line 4 to a different line to get there. Line 2 goes along Nanjing Lu, the Nanjing Lu East stop is near The Bund.

You also change to line 1, 2 or 8 and go to People's Square and walk east along Nanjing Lu to The Bund.

PS

I have links to Shanghai metro maps as a tip on my shanghai page.

you are far away from he bund and nanjng road but right on top of the number 4 line so you can easily get around. good part is the number 4 line is now one full loop so to get from the hostel to the bund take the number 4 subway in the direction of Century Avenue, switch over at the Century Ave stop to the number 2 and it will take you right to east nanjing road station, walk down nanjing road and the bund is at the end.

here's a great english subway map http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro/

when I was there last in April the number 8 line was just starting to run, I do not know if it runs down to connect up with the number 4 yet.

Thank you, everyone. Is it better to stay at a hostel near People's Square then?

An, are you traveling by yourself or with others. I think I remmeber on another post that you said you will be traveling with your daughter. I took a quick look of the hostel prices, at RMB 55 a bed it is ok, but once you have more than one person or if you want to get the private rooms with bathrooms then you may want to check out the Motel 168 or 268 chains, their rooms are in the 250 RMB range and they have many locations, some near the bund.

Shanghai's subway sustem is very well developed and easy to find your way around, I won'y worry about trying to find anything closer to town as then your are further away to the airport, so a trade off.

Yes, I shall be travelling with my daughter.:-) We shall be spending about 20 nights in China & our lodging bill will come up to quite a sum so I am looking into spending some nights in cheaper lodgings.

Due to the duration of our visit, it doesn't matter if we stay farther from the airport until it is time to fly out.

I'm not sure how far exactly, but it's too far for my taste for sightseeing.

Cakes With Real Cream!

by niki68 about Sankaeya

When I discovered this bakery I was in heaven! They specialise in cakes and puddings and you can eat in or take away. There is a great choice of cakes including chocolate eclairs with real cream and custard! The chilled vanilla puddings where to die for and everything was reasonably priced. The dining area is a good size and has a relaxed atmosphere. It is the perfect stop for afternoon tea or a late night treat. They also serve tea and coffee. The staff is very friendly but not many of them speak English, however what they lack in language skills they more than make up for in enthusiasm! This store became a favourite haunt over my 8 day stay in Shanghai. It centrally located and easy to find. Definitely recommended for those of you with a sweet tooth! Everything!!!

If your interest is in Mao and history!!

Memorial House of the First National Congress of the CPC: this is well worth a visit especially if you are interested in Chinese history.

The museum itself is in the original house that the first momentous meeting of the National Congress of the Communist Party was held and contains photographs and other documents relevant to the first meetings of the CCP as well as a model of the main participants of the first meeting.

What is really good is that the photographs and other documents have detailed explanations and chronology in English. The original table and settings are also on display. It would take about an hour to an hour and a half to read and digest the exhibits.

Unfortunately, you cannot take any photographs once inside the display area.

Signage is not very good from the railway station. As you come out from the subway turnright . The entrance is a little convoluted to get to (Side Street).

Opening hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm each day. No admission after 4:00pm.
Cost: 3 Yuan

"Garden Yu"

I've been to China several times and this one was taken last year before the Chinese New Year. You see all the crap which is supposed to be the New Year's decoration?

"Pudong Panorama"

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is located in Pudong Park in Lujiazui, Shanghai. The tower, surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls'. The entire scene is a photographic jewel that excites the imagination. You can get to Pudong by a boat, need to get a ticket first. It is possible to go inside the Tower. The second tallest building in the pic is Jin Mao Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world. There is a super fast lift which takes you to the top of the building in a few seconds.

"Nanjing Street in Shanghai"

Nanjing Street, five kilometres long, is China's most famous shopping street, with an average of one million shoppers and visitors every day! That is a lot of people! :-)
