Shanghai in May

by blcowell

I am looking for good shopping for watches(knock-offs) and jewelry in Shanghai. I am going in mid-May and don't know what to expect of the weather either. Anyone have any suggestions?

I will also be Shanghai this May and was there May/June last year. It rain a little but I don't remember if it was May or June. But the weather was mostly nice.

Many people tried to sale me fake watches. I don't remember what parts of Shanghai. Don't worry, they will find you if your look like a foreigner.

The largest curio market in Shanghai is the bazaar near YuYuan Garden. You cannot possibly avoid an encounter with at least 20 sellers of fake-branded watches if you walk through the main shopping area. Before you get too far, buy an English language map of Shanghai at City of Books, Fuzhou Road at Fujian Road. From Nanjing Road and Henan Road (just west of the Bund), walk south about 5 blocks. You will pass under Yan'An elevated road. Continue about 2 blocks to RenMin Road. Go left for about 2 blocks and then go right to walk into the shopping neighborhood. You will be in a crowd of tourists thick as ants on a jam sandwich. If you hate to walk, take a taxi. Any taxi driver in PuXi area will know YuYuan Garden. Here is a starter map but it just misses the bazaar at the bottom.

Expect humid and very warm weather. Buy a cheap umbrella as soon as you arrive because you will feel very sticky in a rain jacket.

Shanghai Museum

by Jiang_Cucha

Shanghai Museum The new Shanghai Museum has ten special galleries of bronze, calligraphy, ceramics, furniture, jades, minority art, paintings, sculpture, seal carvings, coins and arts and crafts, together with a special gallery of donated relics and three temporary exhibition halls. I love its environment and atmosphere very much.

Relax at Dragonfly

by simcard about Dragonfly Spa

Dragonfly Spa is my favorite place to receive some great massage. They have stores both in Pudong and Puxi. Besides the traditional Chinese or Japanese massage, My favorite massage service is called "head to toe", where you are serviced by two people for a full hour, one working on your shoulder and head, while the other massages your feet. ohhhhh.. it is just sooooo good!!

M on the Bund

by Audrey118 about M on the Bund

a place to splurge a bit - very popular with visitors from Hong Kong as the sister restaurant is award winning and cost a lot more.

great location - with good patio to walk and watch over the bund and across the river is pudong. just love the view!!! food there is excellent - large portion - the bread there is yummy - such as olive bread etc. The desserts also excellent.

Jin Mao Tower

by MaosRedArmy

If you like architecture and/or tall buildings, then visiting Jin Mao Tower is a must see activity while in Shanghai.

Jin Mao Tower (which house the Shanghai Hyatt), is the 2nd tallest building in Shanghai and is located in PuDong.

If you have the opportunity, take a ride up to the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel (the highest hotel lobby in the world) or even better yet - have a drink on the top floor at Cloud 9 (see my Restaurant review).
