I know they still play jazz there as they did in the old days. Here are several sites that touch on that aspect of the old Paramount:

Dear Thornordin, Thank you for the insight of the Paramount. Heard so much of the Paramount and being a Chinese myself from Malaysia, I felt very humbled to get a reply from Viking Gods. Thank you very much.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

A Long shopping mall

by solopes about Nanjing Road

Door after door, modern shopping malls and shops line this always crowded avenue, allowing you to find everything.

At night, fairylike advertising gives to the street an American look, where the Chinese references may only be noticed in details. Shopaholics will feel in paradise.

A quiet retreat in the city

by trvlrtom about Eric Moller Villa

Eric Moller, a Swedish business man, had this house built in early 20th century to please his daughter. The house and grounds, now a restaurant, cafe and small hotel, were intended to recreate a comfortable European residence. We stopped in and had coffee and pastry in the garden area, which seemed far away from the busy street life just beyond the walls. It's worth a stop to take a breather from busy Shanghai and get a taste of pre-revolutionary times.

Jade Buddha Temple

by bonio

There are many Buddhists in Shanghai, this is one of their temples. Felt a little uneasy as a tourist wandering around amongst people praying, but noone seemed too bothered. a serene place and well worth a visit
