As safe as anywhere else, imo.

and

have up-to-date information.
No need to panic, despite the media hype. Just make sure you wash your hands frequently. Masks are of dubious efficacy.

Exactly so Leics. As safe as anywhere. It's a pile of phooey. 17 deaths worldwide - what sort of pandemic is that? More died on the roads in China yesterday, but that doesn't rate a mention.
No swine flu in China, but I see Spain leads Europe.
Masks - useless after the first 2 minutes. Better idea to stop people spitting everywhere, and coughing without covering their mouths.

From reading the news, as long as you don't have a Mexican passport it should be OK. I *don't* know to what extent you'll be checked for just looking Mexican. See mid-article the news of the quarantine:

So far so good! There are just only one person comes from Mexico was verified infected with swine flu in Hongkong, China and there is no news about the new infected person in China. In the past one week was the May holiday in China, many Chinese still went around for tour in every part of China and it seems that nobody feel much worry about the swine flu. Therefore it's quite safe for your tour in Shanghai unless you are come from Mexico. Why not just relax and enjoy your journey in China.

Let's have tea at a beautiful Chinese garden!
by tyusen about Hu Xing Ting
Located in Yi Yuan, the most famous Chinese garden in Shanghai. You can tast various kind of teas. Especially, I can recommend jasmine tea at this teashop. Put hot water in a transparent teapot which includes jasmine and wait a few minutes. Then jasmine blooms and makes you feel happy by its good smell. You should sit by a window on the second floor, if possible. You can enjoy the view of Yi Yuan.
Tai' Chi along the Bund
by herzog63
Get up early in the morning and walk along the Bund to check out all of the people practicing Tai Chi I'm sure they would love for you to join in if you have the skill. There seemed to be many different styles of Tai Chi as some of the people were also dancing with some cool looking swords!
You can also see this early morning excercise at many of the public parks in Shanghai.
Longhua Temple
by Willettsworld
The Longhua Temple (literally "Lustre of the Dragon Temple") is the most authentic and complete temple complex in Shanghai. Located in the southern suburbs of the city, the temple was first built in 242 A.D. The temple was destroyed by war towards the end of the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in 977 AD, during the Northern Song Dynasty. Later in the Song Dynasty, in 1064, it was renamed Kong Xiang Temple, but the original name Longhua Temple was restored in the Ming Dynasty during the reign of the Wanli Emperor. The present architectural design follows the Song Dynasty original. However, whereas the core of the present Longhua Pagoda survives from that period, most buildings in the temple proper were rebuilt during the reigns of the Tongzhi Emperor and the Guangxu Emperor in the Qing Dynasty. A modern restoration of the entire temple complex was carried out in 1954.
Admission: Y10.
