Has anybody stayed at a hostel with children? It seems like there are several in great locations at a reasonable price, and the kids would love the foosball tables, etc. But I don't know if, in general, they prefer that children don't stay there. My children are 5 and 8. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks
most hostels will be fine with children as long as you book your own family room.
most hostels won´t let small children stay in dorms, but as most hostels have family rooms this should not be a big problem.
and i think that hostels is generally a good place to stay with kids as they often has good common areas.
You might want to consider Holiday Inn as children under 19 are always free of charge, I stayed in one that came with two full size beds and it was comfortable for four people. Just check their website.
If you're getting your own private room then I think you'll be fine, but if you're going for dorms then it might be out-of-the-ordinary to say the least.
The only hostels that I consider well-located in Shanghai would be Hiker IYH and Etour IYH.

That was the lion I saw there in Shanghai...
