In Shanghai for a month next June, need help ........

by jolly88

My family will be in SHanghai next June, and I'm drawing out a shopping list for myself already ! ha h a a

Pertaining to shopping :

I'm interested in buying leather shoes for myself and son ( 7 yrs old ) . Specifically shoes like Dr Martens, Teva, British Columbia, Ecco of such brands. I'm looking for factory overruns for such brands.

Should I also bargain the price down to 25% - 30% of opening price ?
Where should I go to buy our shoes ?
Or would it be better to get them at taobao.com ?
I've learnt of a place called Leather Centre of Haining. Will I be able to find my shoes there ?

Similarly I'm also looking out for sports bags and apparels, children clothings, ladies clothings.

I'm zooming in on only factory overruns or quality products from China. :)

I'd really appreciate any advice, feedbacks or suggestions as to where to go to get our stuffs.

Thank you very much for time spend on my questions.

Hi ,what i have come to realise over my travels through asia is when you are looking for name brand anything you pay the same prices as anywhere else some times more.Being that name brands are not a local Product. You may find these items ,but most probably somewhere close in the city center and therefore it would be brand outlets ,so no real svings. Most probably on line you might find things cheaper , but in shanghai i only found local or international. please dont let this dissuade you , as there may be some of the options you are looking for i just didnt see any.

Your profile is empty and I don't know where you're from, but generally China is NOT a good place to look for genuine branded stuff at a lower price than say, the US.
"Factory overruns" are getting to be a myth. More probably what is claimed to be them, are actually fakes with the label stuck on! If you're going for the functionality rather than just a fancy label then I really wouldn't bother.
Otherwise, if you're looking for good value-for-money, quality sportswear etc, I would definitely recommend that you check out a store called Decathlon. There's a big outlet about 5 mins walk from Longyang Lu metro stop on line 2.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

They have Modern Art in China?

by bhemak

Indeed modern art in China. I love this stuff. Stored in one of several of the cities colonial (or was it semi-colonial) buildings on the west end of People's Park. The museum has the typical permanent and rotating exhibits. When I went I saw some great sculptures. One had a streamlined father and daughter were the daughter was intent on reaching a little higher to touch her fathers hand. Of course words do it no justice. Just go and hope it is there. If not, many other great pieces to see.

There are two international...

by kingfisher

There are two international air port around Shangahi- HONGQAO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT & PUDONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
TRAIN is the best way to travel SUZHOU and HANGHOU from SHANGHAI and subway is the best way to visit around Shanghai.

Shopping or restaurants?

by rabbit06

Yes a must visit, wether people watching, shopping or eating you will find it here. Take a stroll along the pedestrian road or even take a ride on one of the little trains ( and look out for these, they just sneak up on you!!.....lol )

Chen Yi Statue (chinese: 陈毅塑像)

by sunnywong

Chen Yi was the first mayor of Shanghai City after liberation. He made great contributions to the liberation and the construction of Shanghai City. Made of bronze, with a height of 5 to 6 meters, the statue faces south. Red glossed granite stones cover the pedestal of the statue in the facade of which Mayor Chen Yi's name, years of birth and death (19010-1972) are carved.
