    Great view

    by

The Heng Shan Hotel was really nice on the inside and out. But it can be a bit pricy for those on a budget. Breakfast was not free (despite what we were told) but the $12 we paid for the buffet was worth it as the food was delicious. Inside the rooms were very spacious and had great bathrooms, especially the doubles which have separate showers and tubs with a small tv over the tub. The view outside the window was also very pleasant with a nice shot of the park near the hotel and the city skyline. One major drawback, however, is the 10am checkout time. They will charge you an extra half day if you sleep past this.

    Hengshan Hotel

Highly recommended 4 star business hotel at
525 RMB (discounted through ctrip.com) along Hengshan Road. Rooms were emaculate with many international channels (such as CNN, BBC, Discovery, etc.). Excellent and professional service staff, proficient in English.

Unique Quality: Great location, right on Hengshan Road. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection.

Directions: Right on Hengshan Road, minutes walk from the Metro

Moller House is one of...

by MacKiwi

Moller House is one of Shanghai's best known old mansions, and up to now it has also been the most inaccessible. The bizarre, castle-like Moller house at Shaanxi Nan Lu and Yanan Zhong Lu has long been a well-known landmark. Legend holds that Swede Eric Moller's young daughter drew a castle she saw in a dream, and Moller designed his mansion based on that drawing. A fortune-teller advised that terrible misfortune would befall Moller when the house was finished, so its completion was delayed...until 1949.
Since 1949, the Moller house has been used as the offices of the Shanghai Communist Youth League, keeping everything but its spires and imposing brown walls out of the sight of the general public. But that's about to change apparently. The Youth League has moved out, and the house is now under the management of the Hengshan Group, which also manages the Hengshan Hotel (the old Picardie Hotel). Plans are underway to renovate the house and five other nearby mansions, but it has yet to be decided whether to use them as a boutique hotel, conference center, or something else.

I lived there a few years ago, I think the hotel is good. It's in a good area, though it's not closed to the Bund but it's very closed to Xujiahui, which is also very good for shopping.

i don't think it's good if compared with 555 Jiujiang Rd. It's an old hotel with low quality in both building and service. Not very close to shopping area(Xujiahui). Transportation is a bit limited.

ok.. if u will end up choosing jiujiang rd instead.. make sure u always watch out pickpockets.. my office used to be inside charm hotel on jiujiang rd.. everyone in my office had experienced pickpockets.. they are usually kids.. teens from xinjiang area..

it is true that henshan hotel isn't so close to big shopping area.. jiujiang rd is definitely better shopping area.. but personally i don't like that shopping area as it is quite a big chao there..
