You want to take a walk along the river (or a boat trip) . On one side of the river are is the Bund which contains the buildings that are the vestiges of Shanghais trading dominance at the turn of the century and up to the 1930s on the other side is Pudong the new futuristic area.

There is a tunnel under the river that you can travel on a small train which is weird wonderful and brightly lit with neaon which will bring you out by the TV tower. Go up there at sunset for great views othe the city and to see it all lit up at night.

Possible, but what would you consider "worthwhile"?
What are your sightseeing interests and preferences?
What are you shopping for? Window-shopping or actually looking to buy?

You can try getting one of those one day or half day tours just to get a basic overview of each site. Try getting one that sees a lot of sites. From their you can decide which ones you would want to see more in depth on your second day. You can do your shopping in the evenings after the tour.

It's never a bargain if I don't need the item in the 1st place. You have not given me any useful information for me to answer your shopping question.
For sightseeing try the Old City area, French Concession and the Bund.

You can try bargain shopping at mall beside the Shanghai Science and Techology museum. You can get there via the Shanghai Metro. They sell mostly imitation/non-genuine clothing articles like shirts, jeans, and jackets. You can haggle with the sellers but be careful because they can be very persistant and usually chase you even after have left his shop.

Like in Beijing, there is not...

by Quiquejavi

Like in Beijing, there is not only a favourite restaurant. Hundreds of small and medium restaurants were a great experience in Shanghai dishes. And... if you are tired of chinese cooking, try Latina a brazilian restaurant. All the seafood is very good in Shanghai.

Visit the Jade Buddha Temple.

by seagoingJLW

This is the most famous Buddhist Temple in Shanghai.

In 1882 the monk Huigen brought 5 jade buddha statues from Burma. He left 2 of them in Shanghai building a temple there to keep them. In 1918 the old temple burned and the present one was built.

The temple consists of three main halls and two courtyards. The first hall is Tianwand Dian Hall, the second is Daxiong Baodian, and the third is the Jade Buddha Tower. The white jade buddha, which was brought from Burma, is two meters high and encrusted with jewels weighing in at 1,000 kg.

Shanghai

"Architecture"

What I liked the most about Shanghai were it's buildings and towers. I love modern cities with lots of tall buildings, and Shangai was the place where I have seen the biggest number of them.
Some residential neighbourhoods that I've seen there reminded me very much of cityscapes from the Bladerunner movie. I am sure that some of these neighbourhoods may have couple of hundreds of towers.
I would love to have a little flat in one of them :)

"Jin Mao Tower"

The worlds 4th tallest building really looks impressive from the outside, so I was couldn't wait to climb on it's highest floor and see the beautifull city from there. I have had to wait for two days, because the weather was kinda rainy, and there was notice on the entrance that they don't recommend climbing to the observation deck because of fog.
When I finally went there, I was really impressed by sights that I have seen, althrough a little dissapointed because of the placement of windows, which are pretty small and placed under sharp angles, what makes landscapes kinda "cut in pieces".

Canton restaurant, located in the building is very good, I enjoyed both food and night views of the city (Oriental Pearl TV tower looks great from there)

"By Night"

Shangai night cityscapes are breathtaking. Everything including buildings, houses, trees is beautifully lit. These sights are one of most beautifull ones that I have seen in my life.
