You should be able to catch a taxi any time of the day in Shanghai. If you are in a hotel, the doorman will get you one.

Which jewelry places yoou looking for? Here is a link to the general location of the stores.

After 1300 it's hard to catch taxi? That doesn't make sense.
And if you're asking about public transport, where are you starting from?
Additionally, if you're trying to ask a particular person this question, simply PM them instead of asking on the open forum.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Shop Til You Drop

by koolkatz_76

Many people recommend Nanjing Lu for shopping in Shanghai. This is a good place, if you're looking for high-end goods and the big brands. But to me, you can find these shops in major cities around the world, and you're not going to find it any cheaper in Shanghai. So I prefer to give it a miss.

Along Shan Xi Nan Lu, there are entire streets of shops dedicated to outlet fashion. Many big names manufacture in China, and these shops carry factory overruns or samples, so sometimes you get stuff even before they are launched in the new season. You can get clothes and shoes at a very reasonable price, but as with normal outlet shopping, look out for manufacturing defects.

Another great street is Huai Hai Zhong Lu and Chang Shu Lu. Similar concept as Shan Xi Nan Lu, just even more shops to choose from.

You just got to be mindful that some shops sell the real thing, but some others sell fakes as well. So if you have a local friend who's into the shopping scene, try to get tips on which shops to go to.

Bring cash as well, as many shops don't accept credit cards.

Mouth-watering Dumplings

by yipsufen about Nanxiang Mantou Dian

If you want to have takeaway, be patient because the queuee is very long. Prices for takeaway & dine-in are different. Famous for its various kinds of dumplings, esp. dumplings with crab roe filling.

Shanghai

by jgacis

"A COSMOPOLITAN CITY"

Shanghai (Shang=ABOVE, Hai=SEA), which literally means above the sea, is a cosmopolitan city and the largest in China. It is also like going back through a time machine. The Pudong district, the modern side of the Huangpu River (pictured above), juxtaposes itself across the waters from The Bund, the historical side that was once a bustling trading post where East met West. The city has many central business areas and as I walked around the streets, looming cranes and construction sites filled in the remaining few voids between the districts.

Restaurants, shopping, and businesses abound everywhere just like in any other city, but the scale and beauty of Shanghai is very impressive. The Pearl Oriental Tower is a must see for any traveller, especially at night. Almost every building (just like in Hong Kong) light up every night, displaying an array of colors that tempts newcomers into a mesmerizing lightshow. Electronic billboard signs only add to the local flavor. Older architectures blend themselves in between the modern skyscrapers. The endless choices of restaurants and shopping makes it difficult for the undecisive, but good prices can still be found and negotiated. Don't forget to visit the Shanghai Museum and city library. The wealth of history and information found in these places is something the avid traveller will not want to miss...
