Outlet Store?

by alanisphoenix

I'll be in Shanghai next October and reading some posts i have seen that someone talks about Outlet Store there.
Where is it? is on the city or out of it? I'll just have one day off to be in Shanghai (the others are visiting the monuments with the group). Do you think its a place i must go? i like shops at good prices much than markets because i hate bargain.. i'm not patient enough.
Please advice.

Thnak you!

Here is a link to my Shanghai shopping page. You will find most prices mean nothing, Barganing is required nearly everywhere except the big upscale department stores. You will see a simple way to win a barganing without really trying. Last time in Xiangyang market, i used the method to buy some luggage. The price started at 600 RMB and when I left the store, the girl shouted, "Ok 190 RMB". Give it a try and you will find the experience fun and rewarding.

It's in (outlying) Qingpu district and takes about 1 hour to get there by bus from People's Square. If you have only 1 day I really wouldn't bother going there!

Re: Outlet Store?

Ellyse, is this Outlet Store worth a trip out there, as we have 7 days in Shanghai and will do most of our shopping here. What kind of stores are there? Is it like a Factory Wholesaler where they sell originals at fraction of the cost? Or is it copy/fake stuff? If it takes about an hour by bus to get there, would we need to allocate a whole day to spend there, or would a few hours there be enough?
Thanx :)

Probably worth a look then. Try using Google Translate and going to http://outlets.blemall.com/spzn.php?id=31280&classid=31280 to see lists of the stores there.
Yes, these are factory outlets, not fake stuff.
How long you spend there depends on your level of interest in such branded items and shopping. I think I spent half a day there, but I'm not really interested in brand names!

Thanx a lot Ellyse. I had a look at that link (I dont know how to use google translate! Im a dummy!) but the chinese link does list most shop names in English. For starters, I dont even know half the brand names listed, I dont usually buy "real" brand names (cant afford to!), and not that many "fake" brand names either, so we will probably give it a miss. But thankyou anyway for your help in giving me info - "Help" is free! And always given gratiously and with a smile by you :)

Thanks for the compliments. :) I've actually bought some stuff from there before, they were pretty reasonably priced. I think I got a small bag from some sportswear brand for around 50 RMB.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

The most famous road in all of China...

by cheezecake_deli about Nanjing East Road

Najing East Road (Nanjing Dong Lu) was the premier shopping road in China back in the 1920s and 1930s during Shanghai's heydays. It was here that the first four department stores in China were built (by Guangdong merchants). These stores introduced fixed pricing and mass advertisement to China, and are still here at Nanjing East Road, though their names have changed and interiors modernised. Today's Nanjing East Road has been pedestrianised, but remains popular as ever, full of shops and cafes. Several famous Chinese shops selling foodstuff, tea and silk are found here.

Nanjing East Road can be extremely crowded especially at weekends (think London's Oxford Street on Saturdays x2), so watch your belongings. Almost anything is available! How much can you afford to spend?!

Nightlife in Shanghai

by snuggie about Bar Rouge

Situated on the 7th floor and facing the bund, bar rouge is one of the best bar in Shanghai.Best for a evening drink while you can sit & relax and watch while seeing the Shanghai lighted up in the night. Bar rouge serve french food.

Yuyuan Garden

by iwys

This is one of my favourite places in Shanghai. It was built, in 1559, during the reign of the Ming Emperor Jiajing. This two-hectare garden was originally the private garden of the governor of Sichuan Province, Pan Yunduan.

It is famous for its classical Chinese, architectural marvels, including the Big Rockery and the wonderfully-named, Hall of an Emerald Touch of Spring.

Entrance to the gardens is Y25. That deafening sound you hear in the summer comes from the thousands of crickets in the bushes.

Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall

by vigi

This museum was opened in February 2000. An interesting tour of where the city has been and where it is going. It shows how Shanghai will look like in a couple of decades. The centerpiece on the 3/F is a huge model of the city as it is now. In the basement, old Shanghai is rebuilt with house entrances, cobble stone ways and operating shops and teahouses.
