WFC in shanghai
by alanisphoenix
hello,
any of you has gone to the WFC building? i read that its the higher in Shangai. There are a restauran or bar there? or just go up to see the views (well i thinks its enough..).
I'm going to be in Shanghai the last nights of my trip in China, so i'm looking for any special place with beautiful views to dinner.Someone told me about some "rotary" restaurants, where it is? on the Pearl TV tower?
All the suggestions are apreciated!
thank you

Yes, I've been up there before, to the 100th floor. That floor was pretty kewl. :) I don't think the observatory floors have restaurants, but I could be wrong.
Oriental Pearl TV Tower as well as Radisson New World Hotel (at People's Square) have revolving restaurants. Not sure about other options.

Can I ask what exactly is the WFC building?
Ive only really heard of Oriental Pearl Tower and Jin Mao Building for views.

It's the new tallest building in Shanghai, the World Financial Center,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_World_Financial_Center
i read that its open since last year, and have an observatory on the higher floors and even one part with crystal floor... so it has to be really amaizing!
i think its somenthing i have to visit next month in Shanghai!

Thanx alanisphoenix for that link, I just had a look, and it looks pretty spectacular indeed!! The 2nd tallest building in the world - WOW!!! Does anyone know opening times, admission prices etc?

here you have the official website:
http://www.swfc-shanghai.com/
i read somewhere that there are 3 kind of tickets depending at the floor you want to stop.
Going to the top it costs 150 RMB (not sure about this). I WANT TO GO THERE! :)

Alanis - Ive just had a look at that site, this place is amazing, Im sure I would be quite petrified walking 100 floors up on a glass floor - but just gotta do it! Yeh, the fee is 150RMB but its not every day I get to go to the 2nd tallest building in the world! Thanx for the site link :)
Re: WFC in shanghai

Yes, 150 RMB for the 100th floor. If you're not going to that one, just go to the 94th (I think it's 100 RMB?) and don't bother with the 97th as the latter has a somewhat obstructed view that's inferior (IMHO) to the view from 94th.
Re: WFC in shanghai

Ellyse, Im definitely going to the 100th floor! Not every day I get a chance to do that. Have you been up there?
Re: WFC in shanghai

Yup, I have, August 2008. :)

So you went up there when it opened - lucky you. Did you go to 100th floor? Im assuming it will be worth every bit of the 150rmb entry price - Im now very much looking fwd to doing this!

Eh, I thought I already answered you on my previous reply. I thought on your previous question your "did you go up there" the "up there" would refer to the 100th floor!
Travel Tips for Shanghai
Rodeo Drive (Shanghai version)
by Stevo_Jess
Well designed and renovated shop catering to the more trendy and younger crowds. Friendly young staff unlike the pushy and grumpy old ladies you find at other shanghai shop.
Some small Factory Outlet store stocking the usual Armani, Kenzo cloths and plenty of locally designer shops. Locally designed cloths and some factory outlet stores stocking nice casual cloths. Ladies will be able to find more formal dresses. I got a polka dot dress for my wife resembering the dress that Julia Robert wore in Pretty Woman Polo Game for RMB 750. The quality is really worth the price I had paid.
You need good legs and patience to explore the place.
Total of about 30 to 40 small boutiques lining the streets and surrounding area. They can do some simple altering in about 30 minutes for about RMB10 to RMB50 depending on the complexity of the alteration Prices are not as cheap but we feel that the price is worth the design and quality we get there. This place is frequented by 20 something who are into fashion. Bargaining is quite hard here and you will get a average of 10% to 15% if lucky. Remember the standard tip for shopping - Have your fair value price in your mind all the time and then you can bargain better.
High Class Chinese
by janner5 about South Beauty (at Super Brand Mall)
One of my Shanghai favourites that I keep coming back to for family and business meals. Wide variety of Chinese cooking styles, although they seem to specialise more in the spicey SIchaun regional cuisine. If you can get a window seat then you can enjoy the view over the river to the Bund.
Prices vary depending on the time you go. FOr example lunchtime special is an all you can eat menu for 160RMB per person. Evenings are on the expensive side starting around 300RMB pp as typical.
Menu is in English without pictures. A few of the staff speak English. Beef cooked at the table in oil with cilantro/chilli. Heated stones keep the oil at temperatures. Very spicey and not as oily as it sounds.
Chicken with Chilli (La zi ji). Incredibily spicey chicken pieces.
Birdeye view of Shanghai from Jin Mao Tower
by bitbit
Jin Mao is one of the tallest structure in Shanghai currently. There is an observation deck on the 88th floor (approx. 340m tall) and it's supposedly the biggest observation deck in China.
The elevator ride from ground to the observation deck is at a pretty incredible speed of approx. 9m/sec and the entire ride from bottom to top takes only 45sec according to the staff.
From the deck, you will have an unobstructed view of beautiful Shanghai city and also the HuangPu River. Remember to bring your camera and videocam because the view is simply breathtaking!
Apart from a panaromic view of Shanghai city, one can also have an interesting top-down view of the Grand Hyatt hotel which looks very much like a tunnel with circular rims spiraling downwards.
Entrance fee to the observation deck is 25RMB for children and 50RMB for adults. Opening hr: 8.30-21.00
There is also a foodmall located at the basement level that sells all kinds of chinese cuisine.
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall City model
by Willettsworld
This is the huge scale model of the city inside the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in People's Square. The model shows all existing and approved buildings. You can view the model at "ground level", or ascend a gallery running around it for views from above. The model is intended to represent the entire city, including all planned developments. However, a few stout pillars, necessitated by the building design, penetrate the scale model. This means certain areas are missing from the model, and views of the model are sometimes obscured by the columns. If you hang around long enough, the lights are dipped so as to simulate night-time and the model is illuminated.
Admission: Y30.
