Shanghai for a weekend! Sept 21-22nd
by china_bound
Hi --
I'm going to have the chance to visit Shanghai this weekend ;)
I will be staying very close to the Bund, any suggestions on what I can see on Saturday and Sunday? Do stores close early on Sunday? As well, how might I get to the rail station to get to Nanjing?
Thanks for your help!
Jon

The best way to the train station is just take a taxi. Shanghai taxis are relatively cheap and dependable. Most taxis in Shanghai will immediately run the meter, If they don't point it out to the driver. If he wants a fixed price, get out. Taxis at hotels generally won't give you any trouble, because they are afraid the word will get back to the hotel.
Things to do - Visit the Bund. You can Taxi over to the TV tower area and go up the tower or to the top of the big buildings. Just do it if the weather is clear. You can go to Yuyan Garden for shopping or Xiangyan market for copy and fake goods. See my page for information about how to get there.

There are definitely a bunch of things to see around the Bund: Shanghai Museum, East Nan Jing Road, Madame Tussauds, Huang Pu Park, Garden Bridge, Shanghai Art Museum.

Most stores close at 10pm Sunday, just like usual.

Yes, too late for my reply to be any use to you, but for future reference...
Sights aren't closed on weekends, if anything, they're even more crowded on those two days than on weekdays. Stores don't close early on Sunday either as that's when they enjoy good business.
Trains to Nanjing leave from Shanghai main train station. Get there most probably by metro (be warned, extremely crowded though very efficient and fast) or taxi.
Travel Tips for Shanghai
Xiang Yang Market now called Xin Yang Market
by gaolei about The Xin Yang Market
This is the market that began as a street market called Hua Ting Market. A few years back, the local government made a new location for the market on Huaihai road and it became Xiang Yang Market after a bordering street name. This summer, they were forced to move again.
The market is now located inside the subway station under the Science and Technology Museum in Pudong. It is easy to find. Just take the number 2 subway toward Pudong and get off at the Science and Technology building. Take the escalator up to the exit level and look around or ask someone. It is in the ticketing level.
The market is about the same size as the old market, but it is in the subway station and it is airconditioned. You can get all the same bargains without sweating in the Shanghai sun. How about a large rolling computer bag from the company that makes the Swiss Army knife for 25 dollars. You can ge anything in clothing, toys, luggage and junk here. You also can get the copy Rolex watches and DVDs. See my other article about techniques for shopping here. Prices are low, but you can bargain lower if you know how.

Yu Yuan - An Old City inside a Metropolitan
by Azri_Azmi
This is the first tourist spot that I went for this trip. After placing my luggage in the hotel, we straight headed to Yu Yuan.
The design of the old city buildings is bery historical. Lots of shops around with nice landscaping especially the Koi Pond. Lots of Koi even with mostly in golden color.
Had our coffee here in Starbucks.
Very nice place to take pictures and see historical landmark/building.

"At the Shanghai Aquarium"
Entrance fees is slightly expensive compared to other country. But it is worth it. They claim to be the longest aquarium in the world. That I have to agree for I have been to a few other aquarium in the world.
Longest doesn't mean they have fishes the most. But still worth visiting.
Took train to Pudhong imitation market.
