Water village
by anoum
Last night I watched a local tv programme which showed the host visiting a water village somewhere on the road between Hangzhou and Shanghai. I couldn't understand the name mentioned because the pronunciation of the man was bad. But I saw it was a village without any roads and its people only walked or cycled on inter-connecting footpaths in front of the homes. Is this the same for all water villages or is this a special one? If it is the latter, can anyone give me the name of the village?

If you were watching CCTV program, it was probably Xitang. That watertown was also filmed in the movie "Mission Impossible III".

Thanks for your reply. I was watching a Malasysian tv programme, Majalah 3. I shall check out Xitang too.

Either Xitang, or Wuzhen.
Look on the photos on my VT Xitang page and see if it was the one you saw on TV?

Hi Ellyse,
I posted a reply to you last night but surprise, surprise, I don't see it even today!
Thanks for your tip. I had a look at your Xitang page (and Datong too!) but I couldn't recognise anything.

Simple enough. You originally posted 2 identical posts. You replied to your other one.

Hahaha, no wonder I got confused!
Thanks for pointing it out.
Travel Tips for Shanghai
Bargain Artworks
by kphstar about ZhouZhang Streets
Walking throught the streets of ZhouZhang, you get to see true artist at work applying there trades. Here you can get artworks for a bargain compared to those found in the city. Take your time to walk around and see the different style before commiting to a sale. Be nice and bargain, and generally you'll see the price dropping. To be honest, bargaining in ZhouZhang is much more pleasant than those you'll get in Shanghai's bazaars. Always start your bargain from 40-50 percent of the quoted price.
Hooters - Awful!
by khizrs about Hooters Pudong
Hooters, very bad and extremely expensive to boot.
Ordered one burger and a salmon and spaghetti, salmon was awful, cold, soggy, spaghetti was poor also, burger came cold, the fries were soggy. The shrimp was acceptable, but not freshly fried.
Food was awful, drinks were extremely expensive too so expensive we didn't bother ordering any.
Total bill was RMB 300 NONE!
The Bund
by karen75
The Bund is an area in Shanghai which runs along the bank of the Huangpo River and faces the Pudong skyline. It's a popular area for tourists to flock to at night as the area is alive with people and is all lit up.
Along the Bund there are 52 buildings with various architectural styles, some of which include Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, Neo-Classical, Beaux-Arts, and Renaissance. It's a strange sight to see such styled buildings all together in one area and in China of all places. You'd think you'd only see such buildings in Europe.
The Peace Hotel, which is a famous hotel, is also located on the Bund.
We hung out on the waterfront for about half an hour which was just enough to take a lot of pictures of Pudong and the Bund.
Shanghai

"Shanghai- one of the beautiful cities"
We were only here two days but we at least had a chance to take a peek!
We couldn't believe how unique and modern the buildings were. Like City Of the Future!! It is described my some as the key to China's future and gazing around us we could believe it!
"A Vibrant City"
Shanghai has lots to offer. There is tons of shopping , everything from designer clothes to of course knockoff ...everything. There are lots of restuarants and entertainment as well. Its an east meets west city!
"A mixture of old and new"
Even though at first glance it seems Shanghai is a newly constructed city , if you look again you'll still catch a glimpse of the old ways , like in the old streets of the night markets.
