Best location
We stayed in this hotel for 3 days 2 nights. This hotel is near the famous Shanghai Bund. It's just 15minutes walk to the Bund. It's also in walking distance to Nanjing Road.
Our parents stayed at the Executive Suite while we were at the Superior Room. Both rooms are spacious (even for the superior room). Though the interiors are more of the classic style, it was comfortable and clean.
Free internet in the room, but no wi-fi
The staff are friendly and approachable, and most of them speak English

Howard Johnson near Nanjing Lu
A normal 5-star hotel, with nice accomodations but nothing special for the price paid.
Unique Quality: Location near Nanjing Lu and easy transportation access through taxis or metro.

I am going to Shanghai with my kids, 8 and 11 years old. I am looking for a 4 star hotel that is NEWLY BUILT (not a newly renovated hotel). What are the newly built hotels in a nice location for a family?

Myself and my family is going to shanghai in august. the newest and most affordable hotel i found is the howard johnson.
however, i recently found this http://www.sinohotelguide.com/shanghai/apartment/. it may be worth looking into. otherwaise you can check asiaroom.com. it's got some of the cheapest deals around.

I know a 4 star hotel just 2 years old. it's Bao An Hotel, located in the No.800 of Dong Fang Rd. is it new enough for you? :) just in the opposite side of Bao An Hotel is the Purple Gold Mountain Hotel, 5 star.

Howard Johnson hotel is not actually new but like most major hotels in Shanghai it is very good standard.It has in fact just been renovated, but it is in a good tourist area right by Nanjing Road.Most of the newly built hotels tend to be in the Pudong area of Shanghai.

will be going to shanghai on oct 1 to 5 through a tour package. The agency booked us in Nan Hua Yuan Hotel somewhere near the City Temple. I've searched the internet but can't find a hotel by that name, except in Nandong. Does it exist? since i can not seem to find it in the internet, i am afraid it is a "cheap" one....does anybody know if it really exists?

marianne, i've checked out all the sites i'd used before going to shanghai and can't find that hotel you asked about. sorry. it might be a dud. try and find out it's english name. that might clear things up.
