The Biggest Mall in Pudong
by nomadig about Super Brand Mall, 168 Liujiazui Xilu, Shanghai, Ch
If you are located in Pudong, for example in Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental Pudong, you don't have to cross the river to do some serious shopping. Super Brand Mall is the biggest lure on this side of the river, specialising mostly to Chinese and Asian brands.
The ground floor of the mall has the biggest shoe store that I've ever seen; Al Bundy would be green with envy. The goods are not always of top quality, but you can find also real bargains.
The mall contains also a cinema, fast food joints and several reasonably priced restaurants, located on the upper floors.

Tips for first timer
by olie92
Hi all,
I m visiting Shanghai from Nov 25 to Nov 30, on business trip. Might have a day or two for sight seeing. Just wondering:
1. How s the weather in Shanghai during this period?
2. Is it difficult to get around the city alone if I don't speak Chinese at all?
3. Taxi drivers, do they speak English? How difficult to get taxi during the day? What about late at night?
4. Are signs and station names (for both bus and metro) written in English also?
5. What about restaurant menu?
6. Any suggestion on place to visit and things to do in Shanghai for first timers like me? Especially since I only have a couple of days.
7. Anyone know Shanghai map (English) on the net?
8. I ll be staying at Intercontinental hotel. How far is it from the main attraction in Shanghai? Any metro/bus station near the hotel? I ve checked the hotel website, not much info.
Thank you all! This forum has always been very helpful.
Cheers
Olie

as Confucius anwsered, shanghai is a convenient city for foreigners, even you don't speak chinese at all. you may get a free english magazine "that's shanghai" at airport, hotel, or restaurants, which provides all kinds of information of shanghai in english.
for taxi, it's very difficult to get one in the morning, late afternoon and evening on the rainy, cold days, but no problem for late night.

1. Temperature is around freezing point, also quite humid/damp.
2. Not really, if you stick to the metro. Also have destinations written down in Chinese characters for taxi drivers if you plan to take taxis.
3. Not really. If they speak good English at all they wouldn't be stuck driving a taxi! Taxis are quite easy to get at most times except around 0730-0930 and 1630-1830.
4. Bus: No. Metro: Yes.
5. Depends on where you're going, right? Some places that have English menus have really funny translations. ;)
6. What are you more interested in seeing/doing/experiencing?
8. I presume you mean the Intercontinental Pudong. I don't think there's any metro stop within walking distance of the hotel.
