Seals

by sobresaliente

I'd like to have some seals made to take back to people for gifts when I return home. Would anybody be able to recommend a good place for having seals made here in Shanghai? And how would I find out fair prices for the different kinds (I am assuming this is the kind of thing you have to bargain for)?
Thanks in advance for the information.

Seal savings

Ellyse will be here shortly with a local recommendation.

I think you'll find some honest seal carvers on Duolun Road in the Hongkou district.

We just found a couple of good places, but apart from saying that one is in the Yuyuan Bazaar area and the other is on Old Street, I don't have any other way of directing you to them. Unless I take you there myself!

Travel Tips for Shanghai

The Orthodox Eastern Church

by Jiang_Cucha

The Orthodox Eastern Church Situated at 55 Xinle Road is a construction of the Orthodox Eastern Church with Russian style. It was built in 1934. Its outer walls are rendered with a mixture of yellow sand and cement. There are portraits of Tsar on the inner walls. On the roof are many-sized domes in peacock blue.

Girls on the street

by chicochapman about Nanjing Donglu

While chatting and joking with the girls who approach you on this street is good fun, just be aware its a big rip-off. A couple of my pals were whisked off to a nearby bar and after a couple of rounds of drinks and a few nibbles, the bill came to 2,000RMB with nothing much more than a grope to show for it. So, as long as you know the ropes, its ok!

So so Shanghaiese

by MaosRedArmy about Xiao Nan Guo

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Xiao Nan Guo. After all, it was the first meal I ever had in Shanghai when I first visited in 1999.

However, since my first visit, I have found better restarants serving local food at the same (or better) prices.

It is great for large family-style meals and you can either choose a table in the main dining room, or for a little more privacy, ask for a private room (for an aditional fee) so you and your guests can dine in (relative) peace.

Xiao Nan Guo now has7 locations throughout Shanghai and they always seemed to be pretty busy. Snake. I ate my first (but not my last) snake here and always order it for old time's sake.

Cruise on Huangpu River

by chatterley

Our tour included a cruise on the Huangpu River. Unfortunately for us, the skies were foggy on that day, so the buildings etc by the river could not be seen clearly. However, we did manage to take some shots of the Oriental Pearl Tower, The Bund, etc.

The cruise was about 35 minutes long. There are two levels onboard - we hung around the 2nd level for a better view.

Modern and Cosmopolitan China

by Nemoa

I was very well surprised by Shanghai as I thought it would be some of a traditional China city but it happened to be one of the most modern and cosmopolitan places I have visited.

I have to admit that I had lots of fun and some other adventures and that I did not find it as easy to roam around as HK probably because the English Language is not as widely spoken but still we managed to cope quite well with it and we managed to see quite a lot of the city and enjoy ourselves.

I was there in January and I have to say that I will not come back there in the same season as the weather was total hell. V. cold and dry and windy. Not very enjoyable to roam around in that weather, believe me.

Nevetherless, I had fun and managed to get plenty of pics, for you guys and gals. Hope you enjoy them.
