There are many Xiao Nan Guo Restaurant in Shanghai, as it is a chain restaurant. The one I went was located in a very quiet and old hotel - Ruo Jing Hotel. The hotel building is European style. Be sure you pick this one for dinner. I have few local shanghaiese dishes and they are all good. See more pics for dishes.

Hi,
I'm planning to travel to Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing in the 1st 2 wks of July. How's the weather then? Any locals who can advise me of the average temperature at that period? Does it rain a lot too?

Good chance of rain and thunderstorm
It can be difficult to tell as it's only early May now. But, generally in early July for Shanghai and that nearby area, it's just starting to get hot -- the hottest period for that area would be mid-August. (Shanghai and Nanjing are 2 of the 4 "furnaces"/"stoves" of China in the hottest summer time.)
Mind you that July and August are also the tropical storm season, so IF there is one, it can hit that area which will result in heavy rain and a cool temperature, although usually the most heavily hit area would be Fujian and Guangdong province further down south. I wouldn't worry about the possibility of tropical storm though.
In short, it's going to be hot, expecting say 30-35 degree for the maximum. Rain is possible (July is difinitely the rain season for the tropical storm reason).

I am thinking of visiting Shanghai + Jiangnan early June, possibly the first week. Would the weather be better?
My partner loves to visit China but dislike the heat. We experienced very hot weather in Beijing during in June few years ago.
Better than August, that's for sure. However don't expect it to be non-humid or cool.
It displays the world-class standard of Shanghai's cosmopolitan shopping environment. Lined with more than 400 modern shops. Isetan, Parkson, New World Departmental Store, Lane Crawford, etc. are
located here. Remember the shopping rule: Pay first then collect your items.
Don't really have one, home cooking is always the best! Anything seafood related - Crabs (which recently I discover I might be allergic, but that won't deter me), eels (freshwater ones)

Yuyuan Gardens are the only public gardens in Shanghai. While there, a group of musicians took to the stage playing some instruments that were hundreds of years old.
Whilst taking this picture, I got a dig in the ribs to take a look around me. We were a small group of tourist in a sea of Chinese who were more interested in taking pictures of us than the musicians!!!!
The reason was that we had decided to travel during one of the Chinese celebrations and people had travelled in from the surrounding areas. Most of them had never seen a white person before, hence the interest and photo taking.
Rich Colonial past, colorful communist present is now being over shadowed by towering capitalist future. This pic says a beautiful story of how the British and the western ideology was conquered by a storm of Communist red which now finds itself helplessly belittled by new age philosophy.
