Shanghai Indian restaurants by Hilton Hotel

by balramdass

Hi All

Can you tell me of any Indian restaurants by Hilton Hotel, I've looked at the Punjabi restaurant but dont know how far it is and any cafes for breakfast. Also I see its going to be raining next week as we arrive on Thursday 1/4/10 and any local sights we can do in bad weather.
All replies appreciated.

As for sights to see in bad weather try the Shanghai Museum, we were there last week and is a great place to visit good or bad weather.

The nearest Indian restaurant is Kaveen's Kitchen which's right opposite your hotel. Address is 102 Huashan Lu, phone number 62488292 if you're calling from a local phone. They open at 1130-1430 for lunch and 1730-2330 for dinner. They're not open for breakfast, and the Indian guy who answered the phone says he doesn't think there's any Indian restaurant in Shanghai which would be open for breakfast, which's exactly what I thought.
For rainy days, you can go to Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Municipal History Museum (in the base of Oriental Pearl TV Tower) and also shopping malls (if you're into shopping). Be warned that it can be extremely difficult to get taxis on the street during rainy days, so be prepared to find the nearest metro stop to take the metro back to your hotel then walk.

BTW, have you received my emails? Would you still like to meet up in Shanghai? I've not received any replies from you since mid January. I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to a stone wall. If you're busy or don't wish to meet up, it would be nice if you could at least tell me so, yes?

I guess I can conclude that this person is either having major email problems (doesn't sound like it) or very rude, as he has chosen to ignore me despite all the help he has been getting from me.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

PiXiu standing guard outside Cheng Huang Miao

by imstress

PiXiu is the mystical animal which is suppose to bring good luck and fortune to its owner.

You can find a pair of PiXiu standing guard outside the Cheng Huang Miao.
This will bring in good business to the owner of this property as well as those shop and stalls that operates here.

Well, this is a very touristy place and I bet the businesses are doing very well.

Nice ambiance

by solopes about Wang Bao He

After being two weeks in China, we become nostalgic of our own food, and somewhat indisposed to appreciate what seems to be... more of the same. Being the last of our meals in China, it was supposed to be special, and... maybe... it was. But to distinguish their several different foods needs more time, and the chance to repeat meals often enough to feel what is common to each area. Arriving at home I must confess that I have no idea about the differences between Sichuan, Cantonese, or whatever (I think that, here and there, we were protected by the guides from spices and... odd food).

I enjoyed the food in China, spicy or not, but I believe that it's about time to accept worldwide the advantages of fork and knife while dining.

Shopping, shopping

by SPW

Near the Central Hotel, Nanjing Lu was a pedestrian mall, extending several blocks. There were all manner of shops here: Shanghai Number 1 Department store, Number 1 Food Store (Department store for foods), Number 1 Pharmacy.... as well as many other big stores, malls, etc. We were looking for children's clothes and found a store with 6 or 7 floors arranged by age, where there was a sale because our stay coincided with Children's Day.
Note that Chinese and Western sizes are different!

Asia Building

by Willettsworld

The Asia Building (No.1, The Bund), originally the McBain Building, housed the Shanghai offices of Royal Dutch Shell and Asiatic Petroleum Company. It was built in 1916 and later housed the Shanghai Metallurgical Designing & Research Institute.
