Marital Status

by TheRHino

Hi, I have heard that you need to provide proof of marriage in local hotels in order for a couple to share a room. Do I need to wear a wedding ring in order to sleep in the same bed as my girlfriend?

RE: Marital Status

We were only asked (in 1998) by a clerk at a College guest house in Guilin, but we ended staying in a hotel with much better conditions.

We have since never been asked anywhere else for the many hotels in various cities we stayed. We have not heard any of our friends being checked either. I assume nowadays the most important thing is the money. Others may have different experience, though.

Not for foreigners n also in 3 stars hotels onwards ,this is unheard of even for chinese.I heard this is to discourage prositutions, although i really don't know how it helps.

My experience is the same as the previous posters'.

I often travel together with my husband and we have never been asked that, probably because we both are foreigners. Once, however, they almost gave us separate rooms, as they thought we were related (we have the same family name whereas in China women keep their own names when they get married)... :)

yes, I never had problems with my Chinese girlfriend either.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

City Garden - Gu Cheng Gong Yuan

by imstress

City Garden - Gu Cheng Gong Yuan is located near Cheng Huang Miao and the Bund.

After walking south of the bund. you will end up in this lovely park. It is a 5 mins walk from both Cheng Huang Miao and the bund. It is a peaceful park where the elderly practise their Taiji.

Some even have a picnic or simply bring a book to read and lie on the green grass.

Airport Bus lines from Pudong Airport to Shanghai,

by MikeySoft

There are several busses from the Pudong airport to Shanghai. Line 1 is a nonstop to the old airport. Line 2 is a nonstop to the City Air Terminal (Jingan temple) downtown. It will take over an hour to get to the City Air Terminal. Line number 2 is 19 rmb

Please see the web site for other bus lines.

I recommend taking a taxi. This is especially true if you have two or more people and luggage.

I'll have pictures after my next trip this May.

Please rate this and my other tips when you find then useful, interesting or you like the pictures

So much to see!!!!!!!!

by jono84

Nanjing Lu, alongside the beautiful Bund, is one of the most popular spots in Shanghai's city centre.
This is the place to do your shopping, and the place to eat and go out in the evening.

I love it because there are so many different people going about there lives, and so many different scenes of street entertainment. It really is intoxicating, a real eye-opener!!

Located in Pudong, the city's new financial and trade district, Grand Hyatt Shanghai is just ten minutes from the Bund, the city's famous waterfront boulevard lined with buildings influenced by turn-of-the-century architecture.

MISS QT's Shanghai Travelogue

by MISSQT

"Day 1 - Journey to Shanghai"

We went on a plane from Hong Kong to go to Shanghai. It flied along the edge of China where there are little islands and oceans.

"Day 1 - One decent lunch on Dragonair"

I went for Dragonair airline because the service is good and the lunch pack are very tasty.

There are some dim sums, sticky rice wrap in leaves, bread, tea, orange juice and fresh fruits..... I could just live on plane!

"Day 1 - Shanghai"

Once we got off the plane, we straight to central of Shanghai.
