Travelling to Fudan, and Bus Transportation

by jumbosale

Hi all!

I'm going to Shanghai in May'06 and will be hoping to visit my friend who's living in the hostel of Fudan university. Is there any cheap way that I can get there besides taking a taxi? Or... can i even get into the hostel on my own in the first place? Does anybody know?

Oh, is there any form of online bus directory/guide for the bus services in Shanghai?

*thanks-a-lot*,
Johnson

Take bus 537 from People's Square (bus stop on Xizang Zhonglu, a bit south of the intersection with Fuzhou Lu) and get off at Wuchuan Lu (the stop before is Jipu Lu). Ask your friend to wait at the bus stop for you. The bus ride usually takes around 30 mins and costs 3 RMB. You need to register at the reception desk downstairs and leave a photo ID with them, which you get back when you leave the hostel.

BTW, the online bus directories are all in Chinese (characters), which I don't think will help much. That's why I didn't point you to them! The method I've listed above is absolutely the cheapest, assuming from People's Square. I go to Fudan University hostel about at least once or twice per month.

Where will you be staying?

If you are coming from the Bund (I think that the Astor hostel is near there and many young travellers stay there), you can take the 55 or the 910 from the big bus stop area and also get off at Wujiaochang (I think that this is the last stop on the 55 route).

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Located on Zhongshan Road(E)...

by kittyzhaojin

Located on Zhongshan Road(E) of Songjiang County, the Square Pagoda was erected in Yuan You period of the Song Dynasty(949-1094 AD.). It is one of the best-known pagodas south of the Yangtse River and follows the type of Buddhist square pagoda of Tang Dynasty. In front of the Square Pagoda stands a brick screen wall on which is sculptured a legendary creature named 'Tan' featuring deer's antlers, lion's tail , dragon's scale and ox's hoofs.

Maglev

by rabbit06

Well this time Rabbit just had to ride on this famous train after everyone's postings (thanks Shirley) even though we could have taken the #2 metro from Pudong Airport to Song Hong Rd but was able to transfer to the #2 metro at the Longyang Rd Station where the Maglev takes about 10 minutes from Pudong Airport and don't forget to show your airline ticket for a reduced price.

What a view!

The Bund - No visit is completed in Shanghai without a stroll in the evening along the bund. The architectures on the west side of the river are very European due to the foreign countries' occupation in the mid 1800's. On the east side of the river are the Oriental Pearl & the Jinmao Towers. The skyline on both sides of the Huangpu River are Spectacular.

Shanghai Museum

by cheezecake_deli

If you visit only one museum in China, make it this one. Its collections may not rival those of other museums (e.g. the National Palace Museum in Taipei), but it is an extremely user-friendly and well-organised place. I happily whiled away half a day here, admiring the largest Chinese bronze collection in the world. The building of the museum is in fact shaped like an ancient bronze food vessel, the ding. There is also a pleasant tea room within the museum, and the adjacent museum shop is very good for souvenirs (good quality but pricier than elsewhere) and books on Chinese art (in English as well as Chinese).

Open daily from 0900 to 1700. Entry to the museum is now free, except for special exhibitions (which usually cost RMB20).

Hangzhou

by heito

In May 2001 the whole family went to Hangzhou - a two hour traintrip from Shanghai. This is a beautiful "small" city (2mill inh.)
I will continue this page and add piqtures from different plases you must see.
