Camera shop

by bago100

Hello
I would like to buy a Fuji digital camera.
I am in Shanghai at the moment. Can anyone tell me if there is a camara shop near Carrefour in Pudong.
I've looked for a Fuji Camera without success in Nanjing Road but there does not seem to be many camera shops here.
Hoping someone can assist
Thanking you in advance
Graham

Which Carrefour in Pudong? There's more than one.
Is there a Gome shop anywhere near you? The only electronics malls that I'm familiar with are on the other side of the river.

Thank you

Either Carrefour in Pudong would be OK.

Is there an electronics mall near Nanjing Road do you know

Thank you

Graham

Try looking for a Gome shop (big electronics mall) anywhere on your side of the river.
The 2 locations that I know of on this side of the river aren't on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street, but they're on the metro line and not difficult to find.
a) Cybermart: corner of Huaihai Zhonglu x Huangpi Nanlu, metro line 1 (red) Huangpi Nanlu stop, diagonally opposite exit no.2
b) BuyNow/Pacific Digital Mall/Metro City: metro line 1 (red) Xujiahui stop, exit no.10/11

There are two huge computer city complex on Zhangyang Road and Dongfong Road. Old one right next to the Intercontinental hotel, just take taxi to the hotel and the complex is next to the hotel on the same busy street (Zhangyang Road). Many shops on the ground floor have digital cameras. New computer complex a block down on the opposite side of the Zhangyang Road, very new I was there 2 months ago they just open up for business, again lots of digital camera stores on the main floor. Remember listed prices are just starting point of your bargining, most will give you at least 10-15% off the listed prices. Good luck.

Above is the map of the intercon hotel, competer complex right of the star.

I just remember there is a Fuji store on Nanjing Road, down towards the Bund end, I went in to process some digital prints once.

When you say, "I am in Shanghai at the moment", it sounds as though you will not be here long. There are better markets for camera purchase than Shanghai. Will you be in Japan or the U.S. soon? You can usually get as good or better price in those countries and know that the item is not a knock-off. You can guard against buying a knock-off with very careful shopping but why take the risk unless you need the camera immediately.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Strolling Nanjing Dong Lu

by Paul2001

Nanjing Dong Lu is considered the most famous shopping street in China. The street starts from Xizang Zhang Lu and the People's Park and then stretches eastward for about 3 kilometers towards the Bund. For much of this stretch, the street is a pedestrian mall. It is often packed full people, especially young yuppie locals with alot of cash handy.
During the years of the European Concessions, the street cut through the main European settlements. It was here that stylish Europeans would shop. Of course this all came to an end when the Communists took control. However today Nanjing Dong Lu has more or less returned to its former glory. There are many large shopping departsments along the street and more than a few boutiques. A serious shopper could easily spend a day here cruising the shops. Personally, I am not so inclined but I did enjoy the people watching, especially when I found a patio that served cheep beer at the eastern end of the street. What I did not enjoy where all the hawkers and hookers who ply their trade here. Nanjing Dong Lu is spectacular at night when the facades of many of the department stores are let up. Most of my photos of Nanjing Lu are at night for this reason

Nice Views

by solopes about Sens & Bund

We spent only some minutes in this bar, time enough to notice the good cocktails at a reasonable price, and the fabulous views from the terrace.

Western music, international clients (carefully selected as we saw at the door), it could be a bar anywhere if it wasn’t the Bund “rising” across the windows.

Cafe on the 88th floor of the Jinmao Tower

by SWFC_Fan about Christine's

Christine’s is a small café and patisserie located on the 88th floor observation deck of the Jinmao Tower in Shanghai’s Pudong district.

I stopped here for refreshments while visiting the Jinmao Tower in May 2008.

This small café offers a selection of sandwiches, cakes, ice creams and other sweet treats, as well as hot beverages, milkshakes, fresh fruit juices and ice blended smoothies.

The café has only two small tables to sit at and, with the vast number of visitors on the observation deck, these were unsurprisingly occupied at the time of my visit. This wasn’t a bad thing though, as I instead purchased my drink and stood outside the café next to the glass windows that look down into the Grand Hyatt hotel’s atrium. The view is quite spectacular, with seemingly endless floors descending into the reception area!

I opted for:

Strawberry Ice - Cost: 23 Yuan / 2 GBP

A very refreshing ice blended strawberry flavoured smoothie.

A small café on the Jinmao Tower observation deck. Refreshments at 360 metres above ground level!

Jin Mao Observatory 88

by meteorologist1

For an opportunity to get a good view of all of Shanghai and even the Yangtze River entering the sea, take the elevator to the top of the Jin Mao Tower, the tallest building in China. The 88th floor is the observatory, where you will be able to look out in all directions. But the best thing you don't want to miss is the opportunity to look down inside the building to see the atrium, which runs from floors 53 to 87. It will look like a long tunnel -- a very impressive sight. Be aware that sometimes the visibility up at the 88th floor is very poor and you won't be able to see anything, so if you're lucky pick a bright, sunny day to go up. As of summer 2006, the admission price is 50 yuan per person.

Maximum City

by mishkah

"Shanghai is confusing"

Shanghai is pretty fascinating. It's boring parts are spectacularly dull, but it's frowsier, faded side and the human ugliness of its backstreets are much interesting, especially when you see bits of them peek through the futuristic but oddly depressing skyline of Pudong.

People go into raptures that Shanghai is the city of the future and you can definitely see the race is on here. But I still prefer the backstreets!
