Former Richards Hotel
by Willettsworld
This hotel was established by the Richard's family in 1846. It was the very first western hotel property in China as Shanghai became an important trading port. The hotel was moved to where it is now and renamed to Astor House Hotel in 1857. To make it the most deluxe western hotel in the city and one of the best in China, the hotel was extended and made into a neo-classical structure with Victorian Baroque styling in 1907. In 1901 the first telephones were installed in Shanghai, with the Astor House Hotel having the first telephone used.
Shop on Nanjing Road
by bsfreeloader
Nanjing Road is billed as China’s number one historic shopping street. Partially closed to traffic, the road and the many back-alleys spawning feature a variety of stores selling nearly anything imaginable. The road is heaving with people throughout the day and particularly on weekends, and it’s impossible to avoid the onslaught of highly aggressive and insistent touts who incessantly peddle watches, clothes, shoes, and DVDs, among other things. Were it not for the omnipresent touts and the lack of street-side cafes this would be an ideal spot for people watching.
tartanski's new Shanghai Page

Shanghai is a amazing city , too much to say about ti right now but I would leave and go live there at the drop of a hat. Too many beuatuful girls and you do get the feeling that 90% of them are after something more than your friendship but you really shouldnt let that put you off making lots and lots of new friends. Chinese people are hounorable and if you get riped off by a girl or by anyone else it will be your fault for being drunk etc..
This city is in the misddle of a boom so go there and experience that feeling of living in a city that grows at one level per day at least as far as the skyscrapers are concerned.
