Shanghai to Guangzhou

by abcd987654321

I ll be in Shanghai and will leave to Guangzhou after 2 days stay, I need to get information about ;

1- From where I can buy plane ticket from SHANGHAI to GUANGZHOU (Domestic)
2- What will be the fare
3- Is better to book with any agent or go airport directly to buy it

Please advice in details

You can book online at If you are staying on the west side of the river, Puxi, you should look at departing from SHA, Hong Qiao airport. It is much closer and cheaper. If you are in Pudong you can choose PVG, Pudong airport, or SHA.

I always like a sure thing, so I book ahead of time. It is possible to walk into PVG and get a ticket at the airport. I think this is true at SHA as well, but I never tried here.

Usually the cheapest fare would be with Spring Airlines, but you'll need a Chinese bank card with e-banking enabled to book.

At various times I used ctrip, mangocity, agents in hotels and the airline offices to book tickets and few problems with any of them. i would allow around RMB1500 for the ticket. If you will be there during 30Sept to 10 Oct then things may be different (both availabilty of flights and cost) due to Golden Week holiday

1500 RMB for a one-way plane ticket for Shanghai -- Guangzhou?! That sounds too expensive!

Re: Shanghai to Guangzhou

It is expensive but they don't say when they want to travel. If it is during the first or second week of October it will be more expensive than usual so it is better they allow for more than perhaps they need to. If you go online using c-trip then airfares around 10 Oct are at 1280+50 tax. The difference is only USD 25. The prices should come down as we get closer anyway.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

For the Bookish Types...

by chatterley about Shanghai Book Mall

Chinese books, dictionaries, stationery, DVDs etc.... these are important tools for me and hubby (I need these for teaching and he uses them in his job as an editor). The best place to buy all these stuff is of course China. We went to the Shanghai Book Mall, the largest book store in Shanghai, to get our "supplies". It has 6 levels, all full of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs etc. Chinese books, what else?!

The highest bar on earth

by enzhu about Cloud 9 Sky Lounge

It's located in the 87th floor in the Jinmao Tower, it's the highest bar in the world.
It has a minimal expense $15 per person plus 15% tip (tip is not common in China).
You can have a great view of the bund if you can get a right seat.
BTW, try to be there before 10pm since all lights on Bund go off at 10pm to save energy. I was there at around 1am, there is no light on any buildings at all. It is sad.

Oriental Pearl Tower

by imstress

The Oriental TV Tower is located at the LuJiaZui in Pudong.

The tower is 468 metres tall and the third tallest TV Tower in the world and was once the tallest TV Tower in China.

You can have a nice paramonice view of the whole city when you are in the 263 m high observation ball or in the 350 high space ball.

The view is better at the enclosed viewing gallery. At the outdoor viewing gallery, view maybe blocked by wires and it was very windy and cold when i was there.

There is a long queue for the center elevator that brings u all the way down. Be sure to stand by the side of the glass door to take in the spectular view and heights of the elevator at a very fast speed down.

The grand hall is the exhibition area which shows u pictures and history of Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

China is among the earliest countries in the world to use coins. Taking the advantage of its super collection, Shanghai Museum provides a historical overview of Chinese currency in this 730 square meter gallery. More than 7,000 specimens show a historical development of ancient coins and economic exchange between ancient China and foreign countries.

Open: 9am-5pm every day. Admission: Free.
