 | Shanghai Hotels and Accommodations Reviews | 41 - 50 of 139 | | Well, we had booked this hotel through the internet...we requested an extra bed, and were happy to see it there when we arrived...the staff was really helpful especially this one valet..sorry can't remember his name..but he was really tall...Great guy!! so friendly, great english, went out of his way to give us tips on where to eat and directions. the rooms were air-conditionned and the decor was very colonial England..nice touch. free 4 o'clock tea and sweets, but I was disapointed as the tea room wasn't airconditionned and it was a bit hot. the location was great, on a quiet street right off Nanjin Road (the main shopping street) anyways, would definetely stay there again...very cheap also...we had a big room with three beds, came down to 30$ a night each!! Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: in the Bund area, right off Nanjin Road..don't remember the name of the street though

Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World is located right at the western entrance of the Nanjingdong Lu's famous pedestrian shopping street. It is across the street from the northeast corner of People's Park/Square. Right next door, to the east, is the New World Shopping Centre. We were basically smack in the middle of tourist shopping and eating central and an easy walk to Nanjingdong Lu pedestrian shopping street, Bund, Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Gardens, and Fuzhou Lu (books/stationary street). The No. 1 and No. 2 subway stations are literally under the hotel via an underground shopping/eating complex. From there we could reach large portions of Shanghai. The staff was attentative and from what I could tell spoke okay English (I speak Mandarin), at least in the front desk area. The staff in the spa/salon area we met had problems with English. The lobby is nice, open, inviting and bright, unlike the darkly lit interiors of some other "fancy" hotels. While we were there, they had a display of live baby chicks and rabbits to celebrate Easter. My 7 years old daughter had fun petting them every time she went through the lobby. We had a standard deluxe room and it was good size, clean, and well appointed. The bathroom had all the amenities you would expect from a 4/5 stars hotel in US. We had a nice view over the People's Park/Square. The maid service happened at least twice a day while we were there, plus the evening turn down service. Please note this was -not- a club level room. Our room included free bottles of water and breakfast for 2 adults every morning. Our 7 years old ate for free at breakfast. The breakfast is a mixture of Chinese and western food, along with an omelet chef and a noodles/dumplings chef. We were very sad to leave after our 11 nights stay here. Highly recommended! Overall, an excellent experience.

Le Meridien She Shan Resort They don't come mucm more opulent - or expensive - than at Le Meridien She Shan hotel at the heart of the She Shan resort outside Shanghai. They also don't come much more deserted, and I guess there were only around eight rooms occupied on a Friday - what should be the busiest night of the week. You cannot fault the location, in an oasis of trees, lakes and Shanghi's Alp, the highest point in the municipality. Quite why such an awesome display of sumptuous furnishings and cavernous rooms has been built here is anyone's guess. One night's stay (RMB 1200) is about a month's salary locally, and despite the beautiful - if somewhat contrived - landscaped surroundings, you have to woder about the rationale for having a 5 star hotel here. But this is China, and China is a country where rationale for hotel building is largely vested in people who have no idea about the travel market. The hotel is huge and looks suspiciously like the losing bid in an airport terminal architecture building: huge slabs of glass, curved aluminium cladding and long, impossibly wide corridors. The rooms are ultra-modern, and cavernous. i have stayed in 5 star hotels in China whose bedrooms are smaller than the bathroom at the Meridien She Shan. The whole room oozes class and style, with a vast flat-screen TV hanging on a the wall above a DVD player. An enormous circular seat-cum-sofa sits by the picture glass window. Beyond is a balcony and a fine view of agricultural suburban Shanghai. The bathroom has a stand-alone bath and is all sweeping curves and soft lighting.
The hotel has fabulous facilities - all of them empty, and behind is a lake with a white sand beach. It's a wonderful hotel. But empty. I stayed at the Captain Hostel on Fuzhou Rd. for two nights and loved it. The sailor bunks are 60 RMB ($7.50) per night and there are 8 beds to a room. The beds go well with the sailor theme and make the stay a little more interesting. There is an individual locker for each bed and new clean sheats are put on every morning. The showers were not the greatest in terms of lighting and looks but there always seemed to be someone cleaning, so I imagine they are not that bad. I would still recommend wearing flipflops to the showers but the water is warm and has good water pressure, so that is a definite plus. There is a nice lobby area, a bar on the top floor and computers with internet (I forget how much it cost, but it was not too bad). Most of the people at the front desk speak English as well. They also have special class and first class cabins, however I am not sure what the price is of these. I did not take advantage of it, but the Captain Hostel also has a boat, that looks like a lot of fun, that goes along the Huangpu River. The location is great, only a block away from the Bund and a nice walk to the Yuyuan Gardens and Nanjing Donglu among many other places.

What a great find! 5 min walk to the subway, super super clean - great little neighborhood (you can watch walzing every night in the square) You have to pay ahead. About $20/night for a double.
I heard that the Home Inn chain started by a guy who bought unused government buidlings for a great deal - those buildings in communist countries have a lot of charm. Totally renovated them. Nice big rooms, comfy beds - All you'd need - Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: All I have is the chinese mapPhone: 021.54614638Directions: They have them throughout the city.Website: www.homeinns.com Other Contact: 800.820.3333

In my opinion, the best hotel in Shanghai both for its location and for its services and rooms. Only 5 min walk to the Bund. It is quite pricy, but if you can afford, definitely stay there. I have stayed at the Peace Hotel and St. Regis. No comparison. By the way, the Italian restaurant in Westin is delicious. The chef is a real Italian!!! =) Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Bund Center, 88 Henan Central Road Shanghai 200002 ChinaDirections: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1379

This place is an hour away from the main city of Shanghai. It would be difficult for the tourist to go back and forth the city since no public transportation that will drop you off to the hotel (unless you take a cab - but definitely for a very high price). Their buffet breakfast is likewise frustrating because they have a very few, not so delectable, selection of food. Their rooms, however, are well maintained. Leave a Comment

This hotel was found by a chinese friend for us. Its also fairly easy to get to as when you get out of the train station, you get on a 510 bus and get off at the terminus which is to the north east of the town, only about 4 km from the Bund and other sights. There is a ferry terminus nearby which will take you over to pudong for 1 Yuan. The hotel is quite smart with your own bathroom, consisting of bath, shower, western toilet and clean towels daily. The bedroom has kettle (Good for making the instant noodles), tv,big double bed and table and chairs and comes with air conditioning as standard. The room rates are displayed on the board in reception and the staff can understand basic english. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but bring a phase book as they don't have an english menu and they can just order straight from the phase book. The trivck is to ask for a free membership card - this is what our chinese friend did for us and we ended up with a room that cost 138 yuan a night. We never got the membership card as i think thats too much paper work, but if you enquire about it you are entiled to +20% the room rate, so for a standard room at 198 it gets reduced to 138 - Bargin in Shanghai! The manager is Matthew and canb speak good english Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: No36 Hui Min Rd, Shanghai 200080 P.R.CPhone: 021-65456999Directions: 510 bus from train station get off at terminus and keep walking straight along the road for about 10min till you see a large hotel on your left near a petrol stn.Other Contact: fax:021-65376042
