Re: Shanghai Shangfu Holiday Hotel

Its partner hotel on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street is about 2-star, so I hope it's no worse.
Not walking distance to Nanjing Lu pedestrian street. Taxi is around 20-25 RMB depending on traffic conditions.
I doubt there're any good places to shop within walking distance of the hotel.
Travel Tips for Shanghai
Russian visa
by yumyum
The Russian consulate is conveniently located to across the old metal bridge on the side from the Bund.
If you need a tourist visa you need to take the following:
Passport, Invitation/voucher (fax copy or email print-out is ok), photocopies from the main page in the passport, the Chinese visa and the invitation. Plus if you are from a country that needs to show a medical insurance then don't forget it.
The consulate is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday morning. It has info on the wall outside. Be prepared to line up for several hours, so go early. They only let in about 2 people at the time. Fees can be paid in Yuan or Dollars and depend on the speed and your nationality.
Kilometers of Silk and Cashmere
by nomadig about Dongjiadu Cloth Market
The best way to buy cloth, were it silk, cashmere, satin or something completely different, is to go to Dongjiadu cloth market. There are several dozens of stalls selling all the colours and materials you need to make the next cocktail dress or something else.
The outside shops sell mostly silk and rayon, some odd cashmere stalls are there, too. Inside, the variety increases. The shopkeepers speak a little English, but pocket calculator and gestures usually convey the message. There are also tailors that can make you the item you want with the material you want.
Be prepaped to tolerate some pestering as some sellers are keen to give you the best price and quality. The market is not easily accessible with public transporation, but fortunately taxis are cheap and plentiful. Remember to have the address written in Chinese or a Chinese map with you. Silk and cashmere have the best discounts compared to Western countries. Be aware of the quality and authenticity.
Is it chicken or seafood?
by tuff about Hong Zi Ji
Hong Zi Ji Restaurant - Hong Zi Ji in translation to Chinese is Red Chicken. However, seafood is the main theme in this restaurant's menu. This is one restaurant everyone should experience. After you are seated and ordered the tea of your choice, a waiter will lead you to the seafood market. There, you pick the seafood of your choices with the amount you need, you can even pick which fish or lobster to be on your dinner plate. You tell the waiter how you want your seafood to be prepared and cooked. The waiter put your selections in a shopping cart as you move through the market. The fun part is when your food is served as the servers are on roller skates. It's amazing that I didn't see a single accident as they fly in and out from the kitchen to your table. The service was excellent and I had to go back again the next night. The business card had no English address, just show the card to your taxi driver.
Nanjing Road
by diggingdeep
Also known as China's `Number One Street`. Nanjing Street provides a remarkable blend of new and old shopping places. The Neon signs are a plus, makes it look like Las vegas in the east. This is where you shop and shop and shop till you drop!... unless your credit card melts due to over-swipping first.
I love Shanghai China!

"Hooping in Shanghai"
I bring my travel hoop everywhere with me, but Shanghai was by far the best place to hula hoop!
There was a lot of open space and there was always a very receptive audience. It was a great way to meet people and share fun moments together.
