I stayed in two locations in Shanghai and both were well taken care of and easy access.
Internet was available in the lobby and a convience store was nearby for extra goodies.
Unique Quality: clean with no fuss.

we stayed for 6 nights altogether and although its not the cleanest of hotels, its okay and definately good value. in the city and near 94 bus stop, and that goes to subway train. its alot easier to navigate if you can speak chinese.
its quite modern and has a young atmopshere - lots of chinese couples
one bad thing - toilets kept blocking up! reception was very quick to unblock, i guess it happens all the time

Where is Motel 168 at the Pudong Airport?
It is located at the bridge linking the international and domestic terminals of Pudong Airport, just above the entrance to the subway station (there is a lift which brings you up to the motel). This bridge which I mentioned above is located at level 2 of the international terminal (level 1 is the arrival hall and level 3 is the departure hall).
Last Dec my return flight from Pudong Airport was early in the morning. So a day before the flight, I stayed at Motel 168 at Pudong Airport. It was about 600 yuan. More expensive than the hostels I had been staying at but worth it. Saves you the anxiety of the rush to the airport on the morning of your flight. Motel 168 there has very nice rooms.
There are a number of food shops at the airport like KFC, Pizza Hut, Kung Fu with inexpensive food. We had dinner there. Then we explored the airport before lazing in bed, watching tv in a most relaxing manner.
The next morning, we were able to take our own sweet time, going down to have a leisurely breakfast at the airport before checking-in.
Be sure to have enough yuan to pay for your deposit when you check-into the hotel. Anyway, the money changer is just at the airport too if you should run out of yuan. It is right in the airport. No worries about no transport to airport or being delayed for your flight.

we are not coming for sight seen, but nearest subway or food availability is important near hotel

This website shows the location. There seems to be 2 different metro lines closeby, but it looks like a bit of a walk to them.

Looks like its on the outskirts of town.
1) Not really walking distance especially in the winter cold, though it should be within flagfall rate (or perhaps 1 RMB more) if you go by taxi. Almost 3 km away, the nearest metro stop is Xiangyin Lu on line 8.
2) What about the location?
3) Plenty of food available at Wujiaochang (about 600m on foot), and also a Walmart. You're also within 1 km of another big supermarket at the junction of Huangxing Lu and Guoshun Lu.
