I stayed at the airport hotel since, I arrived late at night and did not want to make the long trip to Shanghai looking for my hotel. I booked this room through CTrip for Da Zhong Airport Hotel but, it seemed to be called several names. The hotel itself is right between the two terminals. This makes it very convenient for late arrivals and early departures.
It really was just an above average budget hotel for business travellers. You'll find hotels at most airports to be more luxurious and perhaps more spacious; as the room I had was the typical Asian or European sized room. The hotel seemed to be getting older but, atleast it was maintained and cleaned.
The best part was the Asian/European breakfast buffet in the restaurant across the way in the other hotel lobby. For about 4.50 USD, the food was well cooked and the selection moderate (this included drinks-juices, milk, and coffee).
The staff spoke English well enough to take care of business and not much more. For the most part they were friendly and courteous (young student types). Also, the room rate was a bargain just for it's location.

If you have a long flight transit at Pudong Airport in Shanghai, then you might want to consider staying at the Motel 168 conveniently located at the airport.
The rooms are clean and well-equipped with breakfast provided. Price starts from about RMB$300 for a basic room. I stayed here in September 2009 for about 8 hours and had a good rest before taking my next transit flight.
