getting from shanghai to yiwu

by nsha365

I know there is a fast train (at shanghai south railway station) from shanghai to yiwu. Do I need to purchase the train ticket in advance? Or is the ticket available at all times?

I would like to visit yongkang from yiwu. Can anybody advise the best way? Thank you.

Best to buy in advance if you're keen to take the D train as departures are somewhat limited.

Shanghai South -- Yiwu:
D685 (0725--0940) 2h15min
D191 (0935--1140) 2h05min
D665 (1312--1525) 2h13min
D93 (1527--1733) 2h06min
D109/D112 (1545--1745) 2h00min

There're trains going Yiwu -- Yongkang and it's a relatively short ride, so taking train should be ok. Here're the trains which don't depart/arrive at odd hours.

Yiwu -- Yongkang:
5055/5058 (0752--0941) 1h49min
5113/5112 (0830--1034) 2h04min
5125/5128 (1356--1558) 2h02min
5103/5102 (1609--1819) 2h10min

Otherwise, go by bus, departures every 10-15 mins from 0535 to 1740.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Cheap clothings and souvenirs

by bitbit about Xiangyang clothings and souvenir market

The market is located opposite the Xiangyang Park along Huai Hai Zhong Road (nearest metro station is Shanxi Nan Road Stop). The market consists of hundreds of small stores selling many things - apparels (children, adult), imitation goods, silk scarves, bags, cushion covers, tablerunners, jewellery, chinese decorations, shoes and many more. As I have mentioned in the 'Tourist traps' section, one will have to bargain real hard at this market as very often, asking prices are skyhigh especially for foreigners. I can't really advise on what's the lowest possible prices to bargain for...but I did manage to get a silk scarve for 25RMB, a haversack for 60RMB, a set of baby chinese custume for 50RMB. I'm not that good a bargainer (i pretty much just asked for slightly less than 1/2 of the asking price)...so an expert bargainer will probably be able to get much lower prices. If you are into chinois-theme home furnishings, do check out the cushion covers, tablecloths, tablerunners, fabric placemats and coasters. Ladies might want to buy some silk scarves for yourselves or as gifts for friends. Clothings and shoes are reasonably cheap for both men and women. Unfortunately, I was there during winter so the shops are carrying mainly winter clothings and footwear which aren't really suitable for wear in sunny Singapore. Keep your credit cards in the hotel. Expect to pay cash at the stores. Between 15-30RMB for silk scarves of various sizes, 20-50RMB for children's clothings, 30-60RMB for medium size haversacks. These are based on my personal experiences, perhaps if you have a local friend, he/she might be able to advise more accurately on pricing of goods.

Walk the Bund (walkway on the waterfront) in the evening after dark. Zillions of people! Quite a scene. It is very clean and modern now. Let a local take your picture because they will stare at Caucasions and secretly photograph you anyway. Might as well smile.

"Window to the city"

Upon arrival at Pudong Airport, I took the Matlev train to town.
Transfered to my hotel and checked in.
Afterwards I went by metro/underground train to the Expo.

The first performance which I saw at the Expo was Window of the City.

"Expo Symbol"

Here we go, this is the Expo Symbol.
You can buy it almost everywhere.

"Pagoda in Longhua"

This is why most tourists, would go to China.
To have an eye on some structures which they don´t find in there home country.
