Feedback on Shanghai tour
by daphnec
Hi all, by accident bump into this website & found very useful. Hope you gals/guys can help me out here.
I'll be travelling with my parents to Shanghai later this month & the local travel agent has suggested this package. I have asked to change for better hotel as I check on some internet site that these hotels got bad review and I have suggested to change it. I have also suggested to change the wuzhen venue to tongli (as suggest by one of the string in the forum here) Below are the travel agent proposal :-
D1 Shanghai-Wuzhen (D) International Hotel 4*
Transfer to Wuzhen(1.5 hours), after arrival, check in,
have dinner at local restaurant
D2 Wuzhen-Suzhou (BLD)
Wealth Center Hotel 4*
After breakfast, visit Wuzhen water village, then take coach to Suzhou(1.5 hours), after arrival, visit Hanshan Temple,
Master Net Garden, Shantang Ancient Street and Silk Factory
D3 Suzhou- Shanghai (BLD)
Charms Hotel 4*
After breakfast, take coach to Shanghai(1.5 hours), after arrival, visit the Bund, Nanjing Road, Yu Garden,
Chenghuangmiao Bazaar, in the evening, visit Oriental Pearl TV Tower
D4 Shanghai-KL(B)
Transfer to airport
Please give me your views on decent not too expensive hotel & on wuzhen...
Thanks a heep... :-)

Unless the three of you are the sole members of the tour group, it seems unlikely the agent will want to make changes unless he goes to the trouble of polling all the other members. If the three of you are the only members, don't ask him. Just tell him. It's your money.

If you want my opinion, I would probably go for Tongli in place of Wuzhen, also. Lots of stone bridges and such. Otherwise, looks like a good itenerary. I'm not much for the whirlwind tours as the bus rides wear me out but I'm sure you will get some good sightseeing. I'll sit home and watch football on the tele unless my neighbor presses me for another English lesson.
Travel Tips for Shanghai
Ancient Water Town
by tuff
Located only 11 miles from downtown Shanghai and easily accessed via subway line 9; Qibao Station, Qibao ancient town is the only ancient town forming part of the greater Shanghai, you can visit this water town without the long distance travel if you only have limited time in Shanghai.
The town of Qibao is dating from the period of Five Dynasties, the town was built in Northern Song dynasty and grew into a business center and largely renovated during the Ming Dynasty. Aside from the waterway, bridges and architectures, there are a few museums around town, but I believe the best this town has to offer is the variety of sacks; from dumpling to sugar coated fruit, and from this looks good to what is this?
Qibao provided visitors with a feel of traveled back through the centuries through its history, culture, architecture and local people; a day spent in the unique and historic town is very rewarding and memorable.
Mag-Lev
by rugro
If you arrive at the Pudong Intl Airport, I suggest you take the Mag-Lev from there. This train is INSANE. It moves at 430 km/h. Wo-hoooo, that is superfast. Price is RMB 50.
The experience is worth the price times 10
