Shanghai & Zhouzhuang
by tanby
I intend to stay 3 nights in Shanghai, last leg of my tour, arriving in the evening.
Planning to visit the attractions in Shanghai, Qibao Ancient Town and Zhujiajiao.
Should I still visit Zhouzhuang even if I have visited Qibao and Zhujiajiao?
Is it advisable to stay overnight in Zhouzhuang?
Sidetrack... will I still be able to get Z14 (Lower Berth Soft Sleepers)train tickets on the day of departure in either early June or August?

No need to go to so many water villages, they're seriously quite similar. Out of all your choices I would pick to visit only Zhujiajiao and that would be enough. But if the choice was up to me, I'd pick either Tongli or Xitang. Stay overnight if you can. If at all possible, don't go on a weekend.
You might be able to get those train tickets on day of departure, but don't count on it. Since you already know what date you're leaving on, why not get them as soon as you arrive in Shanghai, and save on the worrying?

I'm going to Shanghai this Feb 9-12 and on Feb 10-11. I have scheduled tours of Shanghai. Is it still advisable to go to Zhouzhuang in the afternoon of Feb 9. I'll arrive Shanghai around 11 am from the Philippines and plan to take the train to Suzhou on my own Can I explore zhouzhuang on my own, like a walking tour, without getting lost or do I need to get a taxi around?
Thanks a lot.

Do NOT go to Zhouzhuang. If you want to go to a water village, go to Tongli or Luzhi instead. You can walk around on your own in the water village, no motor vehicles allowed in anyway.

Travel Tips for Shanghai
Amusing signboards at shopping malls
by aukahkay
With the increasing use of English in China, English signboards are beginning to appear in major shopping malls and public buildings. However, in the process of translating word for word, the meaning of the signboard can be distorted, sometimes with amusing results. I saw this signboard outside a toilet in a major shopping center on Huai Hai Lu.
Maglev bullet train
by jlanza29
I must say this was one of my highlights of Shanghai.........the ultra slick, ultra cool, world's fastest train....wow what an experience. The Maglev goes 431 km/h at full speed !!!!!! The total time from the city to the airport is only 4 minutes and 45 seconds....WOW !!!!! Unfortantenly the Naglev doesn't run into the center of town so if you decide to take the train into town or out of town, you won't save much time........show your ticket for the flight and you recieve a 50% discount .....the regular price is 80 RMB, 40 RMB with a ticket......only down side, no elevators, and no baggage carts from the Maglev station in town, so if you have heavy lugguage it might be a challenge !!!! but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT !!!!!!
another hot one.....yum!

This is a very clean, tidy restaurant on multi levels with pleasant decor. The staff are very attentive and the food is very, very nice especially if you like a little spice in your meal! We started with a very nice scallop entree with a hint of chilli on vermicelli which was very smooth before getting in to some of the more spicier dishes, have some cold drinks on the ready, you will need them...!!
Vertigo

The Jin Mao Building is the tallest in China. At 88 stories it has also got to be one of the tallest in the world. It certainly accomodates the worlds tallest hotel, The Grand Hyatt which starts on floor 54 and finishes at the top on floor 88 in the majestic "Cloud 9" bar. Well worth a trip up. The views are breath taking
sunliping's Shanghai Page(1995)

I scanned some old pics there, hope you like them.
Those pics were taken in 1995 when i was visiting ShangHai.
See my travelogue Shanghai.
From those pics you can see that ShangHai was not so modern that time, and if you compare them to the newest pics of ShangHai,you will find,--"Wow,ShangHai is really changed a lot!" You can prove this by checking my friend Vigi's page: http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/.135614/690/?s=U
See my travelogue of Shanghai if you wanna know something about Shanghai in 1995.
