How to book a hotel in Shanghai?
by kennyfong
I'm browsing hotels, but I can't actually find the official web sites for a lot of the hotels. Am I searching wrong? Do I need chinese or something?
In any case, where is somewhere good to stay? 3.5-4 stars, upper-mid price range, in a central location... I take it it's the area around no.1 department store, excibition centre, hyland, peace hotel that's the busiest for like tourist shopping and stuff?
I also need a room that fits 3 adults... are there hotels in Shanghai that have suites to cater to 3 adults?

Ctrip.com and elong.com (the former based in Shanghai, the latter, Beijing). Both have a wide range of hotels for all budgets. We used the latter in 2002. No pre-pay required, very easy to book. They have the SAME rate for same properties and room, but slightly different collection of hotels.
Look carefully at the room description, the types of beds offered etc, if you have two queen size beds, you can put four adults in the room, or two whatever size beds, and add one more temp bed.
Best luck!

You're pretty much correct about a good location to stay in. When will you be staying and what's your budget like?
Travel Tips for Shanghai
June Clouds in Shanghai
by five_toes
At the very beginning, i just wanna go and handle some personal affairs.
And the weather was so good. Then, i took out my camera and enjoyed a whole day tour on foot.
I'm working here since last September, and i've been to some places, such as the Bund, Yuyuan garden. So, it didn't take me long this time when i passed by. But for new visitors, be there in different days would be much more comfortable.
Destinations,
the Jade Buddha temple-also be called Yu Fo temple;
M 50 factory- an innovation place for art;
Lao Xi Men- the old street- and Yu Yuan garden;
the Bund
Ferry across Huang Pu river
the Super Brand Mall
Oriental Pearl Tower and the skyscrapers--JinMao Tower and the highest Shanghai World Financial Center.
Leave your email, i'd like to send u my maps.
Shanghai Maglev Train
by bitbit
The Magnetic Levitation Train (Maglev) is Shanghai's pride and joy. Traveling at a high-speed of 430km/hr between Pudong International Airport and Pudong Longyang Road Station, the entire journey takes only slightly more than 7mins (traveling by car will probably take about an hour). Operation time of the Maglev is from 8.30-17.30 and it departs every 20min. Economy class fares are: 50RMB (single trip), 80RMB (return trip) and 40RMB if you produce your airplane ticket for the same day. Tickets are purchased at the stations. The ticket also entitles you free entry to the Maglev exhibition located on the ground floor of the station.
Yuyaun Bazaar indeed
by kphstar
The Yuyuan shopping area can only be describe as chaotic. There is not no enough room on the side walk to get to safely with two people let alone trying to push a stroller. But as you get into the main bazaar, you'll find this space becoming even more limited. The people traffic that flows through the small maze of street has to be experience to be believed.
Although this area is a major tourist spot, I fail to see its drawing power. There isn't really anything of great interest aside from the historical architecture and the Yuyaun Garden, there is much else. Sure there are plenty of souverior shops but they are generally over priced and only good for there air-conditioning.
Xin Tian Di
by imstress
Xin Tian Di will be your closest match to what Lan Kwai Fong is to Hong Kong and Clarke Quay in Singapore. Other than restaurants there are stylish and expensive shops, boutiques, accessories, cinema and pubs.
Prices for food generally start at RMB 200 but if you head inside, you will find a McDonalds and a few other budget restaurants where you could save some RMB for shopping.
