my favorite shanghai hotel
try the pacific hotel on nanjing road. they have facilities for your business needs and is well-located for your leisure itineraries. the hotel is nothing fancy, but it is clean and nice and they have a very comfortable western feel to it. you can reach them through their official website at http://www.pacifichotel-shanghai.com/ oh, you're also there for the olympics. better hurry. have a safe travel and "Citius, Altius, Fortius" :)

Pacific Hotel (3*)
This is my second review of the Pacific Hotel, to specifically review the 'new extension' (3rd floor rooms).
The Pacific must be the best value hotel in Shanghai, and while the large rambling rooms in the main hotel building are very much 3-star, the newer rooms in the 3rd floor extension at the back of the hotel are definitely 4-star in quality, 3-star in price!
Yes they are bland and modern, and lacking in atmosphere but they are squeakly clean, have international TV, more space than usual in a Shanghai hotel, well air-conditioned, and the shower and bathroom is excellent!
Given that the Pacific looks out onto Renmin Square, is steps away from a Metro station, has taxis waiting outside night and day....all for less than RMB500 and this has to be Shanghai's best bargain.
The restaurants at the hotel are below-par, but there are plenty of great places nearby.
The higher numbered 3rd floor rooms (329 to 336) face a building site at the moment, and the lower 3rd floor rooms have absolutely no view at all, but at this price who cares. If you want a view, the room savings would allow you to eat each night at the Hyatt at the Jin Mao Tower.

Pacific Hotel (3*)
Small, independent, classy little hotel.
Rooms are enormous, and odd shapes and there are still plenty of Art Deco touches and flourishes to give a sense of old Shanghai.
Small restaurant off the lobby; bigger 'banquet' style restaurant on the top floor.
Beautiful panels and details in and around the lobby; the Pacific features in several architectural guidebooks of Shanghai.
Location is excellent, being on the north side of Renmin Park, right smack bang in the centre of Shanghai, and 50m from a subway station entrance.
Unique Quality: Architectural detailing, and the "style" of this place make it a good choice.

have anyone stayed at this hotel/ service apartment before at North Shaanxi Road? is it good? convenient? i'm looking at staying at the standard suite..does anyone have their tel number? cos i'm thinkin of booking straight with the hotel but can't find their website. pls advise.. thanks!

you may try to negotiate the rate with their staff by saying recommended by friends accormadated there very often with great rate.
make sure which floor you shall check in, it is different from shanghai grand pacific hotel which is in the same building.

See my review in Virtual Tourist. I likred it, the only problem is no CNN or other western programming on TV and the beds are a bit hard. Roomas are beautiful and the location is optimal.

all the beds in China are hard! Grand Pacific good location for its price, we stayed there twice last year. Check SinoHotel, they have all inclusive prices.

thanks! i think i will book this hotel then with quite good reviews everywhere.. :) i got a good price of RMB620 per night with 2 breakfast at this website called www.chinahotel.com.cn but when i tried to contact the person, they were very prompt in replying but the people replying were from surehigh.com which i found out was not really a website so i am afraid that this not be a secure website to make bookings. have anyone deal with this reservation company before? pls advise. thanks!
