oriental pearl tower

by mayan722

i will stay in central hotel. how do i get to the oriental pearl tower? what are the cheapest options if not by taxi? how long is the trip to go there? i plan to go on a sunday morning. thanks

Cheapest and fastest is to take the metro. Your hotel is <5 mins walk from Nanjing Donglu (line 2, green). Take it 1 stop east on the same line, to alight at Lujiazui. Fare is 3 RMB/pax, journey time 3 mins. Look on http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro/ for a good interactive metro map of Shanghai. Go out of exit no.1 and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is smack in front of you and unmissable.

Mall of Chinese Goods

by nomadig about Nextage

The city's largest department store, Nextage in Pudong area, specialises in Chinese upscale brands. There are a few Western brands at the ground floor, but everything else is local. Don't be fooled with European sounding names.

Most of the stuff is put poorly on the view, and the store has somewhat 70s feeling. Still, you can make some real good finds, especially if you are a compact person. Remember to check the quality of the goods. The numerous members of the sales staff are very attentive, but not very helpful due to language barrier.

Uigurian Food from Xing Jiang

by simcard about The Grape Garden

This restaurant offers very good Uigurian food from Xing Jiang. If you don't think you can get used to Chinese food, perhaps you can start from Uigurian food first because it has some similarities to western food.

Very Overrated

by Lionshart

Nice for a walk or stroll, but expect the following, Beggars will seek you out often, Touts will approach you every 10steps you take trying to sell you fake rolex watches, gucci bags, prada shoes and services I would not name (esp if you are male). The product sold in many of the shops are western style jeans, shirts and gadgets that are not as cheap as you might expect. As a foreigner you will get gazed at a lot which can be very very uncomfortable due to the fact that there are about 40,000 people walking pass at any one time. Avoid like a plague.

Big, Chaotic, and Still under Construction !!!!!

by jlanza29

Shanghai....wow....what a huge city....what a fun city.......this is probably the Chinese version of New York City. Tons of traffic, lots of people, great food, great restaurants, world fastest bullet train......would you want anything more ??? I LOVE SHANGHAI !!!!!!

Update May 2009:

This city is still under construction !!!!! As Shanghai gets really for the 2010 World's Fair, the construction is more intense then it was 3 years ago !!!!!
