Only for coffee

The Hotel is truely a mixture of ancient and modern decore built in a Gothic Style, it once was known for its luxury and magnificence.(not any more!!!).

We come to Shanghai often and usually stay at Pudong Shangi la which is fabulous but decided to try the Peace Hotel for a change. What a disappointment!! The only good thing about it is the location to the Bund and shops/markets. The Jazz Club is fabulous but very expensive, even coffee is so overpriced.

Our room had no airconditioning as it had broken down, we asked for a reduce fee because of it but in the Peace Hotel its sorry, sorry, sorry no...no...

The restaurant looks impressive but the service slow and ordinary. The worse thing is the staff so rude!!!! They need to have lessons at The Shangi la Hotel. We decided never to stay here again!! but I still stop here to visit the toilet and have coffee(even though I know I'm being ripped off) as least its clean and civilized.

old hause

*****
1906-2006
100 years old.
Historical buildings and furnitures.

super location! It takes only about 3 minutes to go to the Huangpu River, 15 minutes to go to the famous Jade Garten. Facing the developing Pudong new area and soaring Orient Pearl TV Tower over the Huangpu River, and next to the Nanjing Road Shopping Area (the famous traditional shopping center. only 2km from People’s Square.

The new building is opposite the old building, it looks very nice and modern, but it costs much more than the old one. The food in the old building was not so good and we had not so many choices.

Peace Hotel - a world famous hotel

Peace Hotel is truly a fusion of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western.

The 12-storey high Peace Hotel was opened in 1929.

The roof top gives u a good view of the bund and Pudong Skyline.

Unique Quality: Great view of the Pudong skyline and area.

A the Bund wtih a sense of old Shanghai

The luxurious hotel of former times is located at the top of the Bund. It gives you a sense of the past givng you the feeling of Shanghai's long lastig history.

Unique Quality: Don't miss to have breakfast at the dining room on 6th floor: In the middle of a dusty atmosphere of the rearing 1920ies you'll sit in front of Shanghai's most modern district Pudong having at your feets the Huan Po river with its busy shipping traffic.

HI!

For residential staying or for just passing through as a tourist?

Most of the residential suburbs are in Pudong while the hotels are in Puxi. (Helen has already kindly offered districts in Puxi)

I liked Huangpu district (Near the Bund). Peace Hotel (North Building) is really cool but $125 a night. Can't beat the roof of the Peace Hotel at night. I was there for two only 2 days unfortunately. We didn't do much (the Hotel is very romantic). Loved the Museum in Peoples park, lunch at Fongs and the YuYuan gardens. Walking along the bund to Huangpu Park in nice as well as going through a bizarre "Siteseeing Tunnel" to go under the river to Pudong to see the Tower. We took the Huangpu River cruise one night. Great chinese girl band trio with a burnt out old western guitarist doing cheesy covers while enjoying the Shanghai skyline. Highlight was a cover or "I Thank you" that sounded like an ode to '89 Tiananmen to the casual listener. M on the Bund is supposed to be great for dinner, but our fancy meal was the breakfast buffett at the Peace Hotel (Fantastic) and some room service spagetti. I'm no expert, but I really enjoyed my two days in Shanghai. When I come back, I'll stay longer and budget travel around from Shanghai.

1) For what purpose, work or travel?
2) Long-term or short-term?
3) What's your budget like?

I'd suggest Hong Kong Plaza on Huaihai Zhong Lu. It's called 'serviced apartments' but they're really a hotel. Here you're on Huaihai Lu (one of the main roads in Shanghai), opposite HuangPi Nan Lu metor station, and 3 minutes walk to Xintiandi.

This is where I put all personal and business visitors.
