Peace Hotel

$105 (but currency was RMB

Unique Quality: Huge room. Very comfortable. Beautiful decor. All ART DECO style. Built in the 20s, this place is very famous.
All modern amenities, including a wooden comb, toothbrush and paste and a souvenir laundry bag!
Very good service.
The food was so-so and the remowned 'Jazz Band'which plays in the downstairs club was not very good, but 'oh well.'

PEACE HOTEL. Sung Mei Lin and Cheung Kai Shek hold their wedding here. Facing the Bund, it is the most expensive hotel in Shanghai.

HI!

For residential staying or for just passing through as a tourist?

Most of the residential suburbs are in Pudong while the hotels are in Puxi. (Helen has already kindly offered districts in Puxi)

I liked Huangpu district (Near the Bund). Peace Hotel (North Building) is really cool but $125 a night. Can't beat the roof of the Peace Hotel at night. I was there for two only 2 days unfortunately. We didn't do much (the Hotel is very romantic). Loved the Museum in Peoples park, lunch at Fongs and the YuYuan gardens. Walking along the bund to Huangpu Park in nice as well as going through a bizarre "Siteseeing Tunnel" to go under the river to Pudong to see the Tower. We took the Huangpu River cruise one night. Great chinese girl band trio with a burnt out old western guitarist doing cheesy covers while enjoying the Shanghai skyline. Highlight was a cover or "I Thank you" that sounded like an ode to '89 Tiananmen to the casual listener. M on the Bund is supposed to be great for dinner, but our fancy meal was the breakfast buffett at the Peace Hotel (Fantastic) and some room service spagetti. I'm no expert, but I really enjoyed my two days in Shanghai. When I come back, I'll stay longer and budget travel around from Shanghai.

1) For what purpose, work or travel?
2) Long-term or short-term?
3) What's your budget like?

I'd suggest Hong Kong Plaza on Huaihai Zhong Lu. It's called 'serviced apartments' but they're really a hotel. Here you're on Huaihai Lu (one of the main roads in Shanghai), opposite HuangPi Nan Lu metor station, and 3 minutes walk to Xintiandi.

This is where I put all personal and business visitors.
