About the Ya Tai Sheng Hui market

by dragonking

So, I read in one of the posts that half of the Xiangyang vendors have moved there. This is good. But are prices still the same? Just so I know where to begin my bargain.

The new Xiang Yang market is in the subway station under the Science and Technology building. I heard there is a second market opening in Puxi, but I have not seen it yet.

RE: RE: About the Ya Tai Sheng Hui market

I meant to ask whether the prices of goods are still the same as at Xiangyang Market.

RE: RE: About the Ya Tai Sheng Hui market

by gaolei

Yes, It is mostly the same things, along with the "pssst DVD" guys. It is actually better because it is air conditioned.

Prices are the same. The hot item, the swiss army computer bag, is 200 Quai. Much lower than US retail.

RE: RE: About the Ya Tai Sheng Hui market

good to hear that prices are the same as before. thanks gaolei. one last question. what time do they start each day?

RE: RE: About the Ya Tai Sheng Hui market

by gaolei

Not sure. I would guess that by 10 AM they would be open.

I noticed a whole bunch of vendors on Huaihai Zhonglu between Shaanxi Nanlu and Xiangyang Nanlu just yesterday evening, but wasn't close enough to see what they were offering. I bet it's the same ex-Xiangyang Lu market stuff though.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Ancient Chinese Sculpture

by marsistanbul

The Chinese sculptural art can be traced back to the prehistoric stone carving and pottery making. The large numbers of pottery and wooden funeral figurines of human beings and animals of the Warring States period and Qin and Han dynasties(5th century BC-AD 220) exemplified the native Chinese sculptural art.Along with the introduction of Buddhism in the turn of Western and Eastern Han dynasties.Buddhist sculptures and became more expressive and nationalized in Northern Qi and Northern Zhou dynasties(550-581).The Tand sculptures, nouished by the cream both of Indian and native sculptural arts, turned out very distinguished, such as the polychrome glazed pottery figurines which vividly portrayed the social life of the time. The Song statues, mainly of painted clay and wood, were executed more realistically. How ever,Buddhist sculptures lost their vitality in the Yuan,Ming, and Qing dynasties(1279-1911),when traditional Chinese crafts of decorative carving made remarkable achievements.

Jinmao Tower: Have a drink on the 54th floor

by Museeuw

If I'm not mistaken the Jinmao Tower on Pudong has 88 floors, and the Grand Hyatt hotel starts from the 53th floor onwards. It's definitely worth it to go to the 54th floor and have a drink in the Grand Café of the hotel. When we were there it was really foggy outside, but still the view was amazing. If it's nice weather, it must be amazing.

The Jinmao Building

by iwys

Pudong not only has the third highest tower in the world, the Oriental Pearl, but also the world's third highest building: the 420m-high, Jinmao Building. There is an observation deck on the 88th floor.

Open 8.30am-9pm daily

Shanghai

by margaretvn

We were in China twice, both times with an organised trip although that is not our favourite way of travelling. We chose to do it that way because we had limited time and wanted to see as much as possible.
For more photos and travellogues please look at my CHINA page as I have put a lot on there. Thanks
More to come....
