Pu Dong
by Jiang_Cucha
Pu Dong Pudong New Area is part of the city of Shanghai. It is located on the eastern side of Huangpu River, which cuts through the city. Pudong has a land area of 533.44 square kilometers and a permanent population of 1.63 million. In the past, due to the lack of bridges and tunnels across the river, Pudong was lagging far behind the old downtown of Shanghai in term of economic growth, though it lies just across the river from the latter.
Views from River Cruise

Enjoy the glittering lights of Puxi & Pudong at the same time on the river cruise. The boat will ply along Huangpu River, one of the most famour rivers in China. A lot has happened around this area in the 50s or even earlier. Well, I happened to know this from the many Hong Kong TV serials, one v. famous being "Shang Hai Tan".
A little imagination is all one needs to go back in time.

New Open Economic Development Zone
by Willettsworld
If ever a scene defined a whole country then this surely must be it, looking away from The Bund over the Huangpu River to the district known as Pudong (literally "East of the [Huang]pu"). Before 1990 this area was just a boggy farmland but since then it's become one of the success stories of the whole country in terms of financial and commercial progress. China has realised that greed really is good and has exploited all that capitalism has to offer with relish. Pudong has become a "New Open Economic Development Zone" and is home to the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and a skyline that includes the symbolic Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Building, and the Shanghai World Financial Centre.

When to go
Shanghai also enjoys a delightful climate with four distinct seasons. Annual temperatures average 16C and annual rainfall averages 1200 millimeters. However, spring and autumn, with their moderate temperate, are the best times to visit Shanghai.
History
While the city epitomizes modern, urban China, its history is one of its most intriguing features. In particular, in the 1930s and 40s, Shanghai was a paradise for adventurers. Tycoons, millionaires, knights-errant and great beauties came to this attractive city to realize their dreams, and countless moving stories, both sad and joyful, were played out here
