Shopping Digital Camera and Fishing Reels/Rods

by gmbrown

Is it worth buying a digital camera in Shanghai, from a performance and cost standpoint?
Where can you buy fishing rods/reels in Shanghai?

Re: Shopping Digital Camera and Fishing Reels/Rods

Are you looking to buy a genuine foreign branded digicam? If so, I think you would do better to buy somewhere else. You won't get English-language manuals nor international warranty if you buy here. Plus it won't be any cheaper.
Try Decathlon (http://www.decathlon.com.cn/english/index.html) for your fishing rods/reels (http://www.decathlon.com.cn/univers/univers-nature-en.htm).

Best Buy, Circuit City, Wall-Mart, any place, nut not China. The prices are higher than the USA stores, because they are low margin operations with a lot of competition. The Chinese stores don't have the buying power and don't want to give you a bargain price. Besides, as previously stated, the manual will be unreadable and the warranty worthless.

Fishing rods are made for many of the main US manufacturers in Wei Hai, Shandong province. They make some nice poles there, especially the telescoping poles. You can find them in Shanghai, I am not sure where right now. There used to be a fishing store on Beijing road, but that was long ago. Fishing reels are better in the USA.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Yu Yuan Garden the most...

by ErnieGal

Yu Yuan Garden the most famous ancient structure in Shanghai, attracts millions of tourists both at home and abroad every year. Its exquisite layout, beautiful scenery, and the artistic style of the garden architecture are where the charm of Yu Yuan lies. At the same time, Yu Yuan Garden is often frequented by shoppers who want to purchase traditional Chinese products as well as gold and jewels. Yuyuan Garden(Garden of Leisurely Repose), located on Yuyuan Road of Nanshi District, was built in 1559(the 21st year in the period of Wan Li of Ming Dynasty). Inside the garden there are exquisite rockeries, dragon walls and differently shaped pavilions and towers and other tourist attractions like Cuixiu Tang(the Hall of Gathering Graces) and Dianchun Tang(the Spring Hall). The garden is acknowledged as 'an architectural miracle in the region south of Yangtse River', 'an elite of garden in southeast China'.

I was in the 'Crossroads Bar'. It was very funny and we had lot of fun with the locals! The people are very friendly, able to speak English and you can hear good music! The 'Hello Bar' was also very nice!

Cheap, but Good Thai

by nomadig about Thai Thai

Thai Thai offers the basic Thai fare in the Super Brand Mall in Pudong. The restaurant is a haven between shopping sprees. The food is good and cheap. The staff is very attentive and positive, some speak also English.

We ate two chicken curries and bowls of rice. The total cost was less than five euros. The only mishap was that one of the curries had chicken mostly in the name, we managed to find five small pieces from the broth. Anyhow, the price / quality ratio was much better than in the next door McDonald's.

Breathtaking view from Jin Mao Tower

by snuggie

This picture was taken from the 88th floor of the Jin Mao Towers. The view up here are indeed breathtaking. You can enjoy the very best view of Shanghai here. However,if it happen to be a day of haze, then you won't be able to see anything at all.

"Shanghai buildings"

There are so many skyscrapers to see here, if that is your interest. There's the Oriental Pearl TV tower, the old architecture of YuYuan Garden, the tall Jin Mao Tower, and the beautiful yuyuan theater. You can walk on the nine-curve bridge, explore Pudong, and try some delicious cuisine at the Gongdelin Vegetarian Restaurant. Walk on the Bund but don't be fooled by the tourist traps--just enjoy the river. It's a good walking city. And if you're in need of coffee (coffee? in china? it's possible in Shanghai!) you can visit some coffee shops. Try the nearby Zhouzhuang, it is the "venice of China" and lives up to it's name.

"Oriental Pearl TV tower"

Visit China's tallest tower! It's difficult to capture the entire tower in one photo.
