Handy for New Int'l Expo Centre
After a long flight from London, the hotel shuttle is easy to find on the arrivals concourse. The journey is 2 - 3 minutes by shuttle bus. Even though I had booked a regular room for 5 nights, I was directed up to the executive floor where check-in was quick and easy. I had requested a high floor maybe thats why I got an executive room at the normal rate. The exec lounge was handy especially for internet. The main restaurant had an excellent buffet breakfast and was good for evening meal too. The oriental restaurant on 1st floor had rude staff (my only complaint about this hotel). Rooms were clean and up to western standard.
You can also walk to the terminal in about 10 minutes. I was attending an exhibition at the SNIEC expo centre. The taxi ride there was about 40 minutes and cost about USD 10. You can also take the Maglev which is excellent. However by the time you transfer to the airport, walk over to the maglev station, wait for the maglev, and then walk the 5 minutes to the expo, the journey is also about 40 minutes so I advise take a taxi.
The hotel is a long way from downtown shanghai! about one hour by bus or taxi. However it is so convenient after arriving after a long flight!

A Hotel Near to Maglev Terminal
Unique Quality: The hotel is located 500m away from Pudong International Airport. Terminal of Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) Train is next to the hotel. It will take you 7 minutes to Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
It is certainly an ideal place for holding meeting, expo, convention or even for stopover.

I cannot 100% guarantee you will find a taxi at 3am, but on the other hand, my impression of Shanghai is that it is a city that never sleeps! I would be pretty sure you will find one, and if you are still wary, get your Hotel to book one for you, to arrive at the Hotel at 3am to pick you up!! The Hotel Reception should do that for you, no worries!
As for Hotels close to the Airport, I honestly have no idea of any, but I am sure fellow VTers will suggest some, if that is what you decide to do.

You could probably ask the receptionist at the hotel you're staying at that you need a taxi at 3am. They should know if there's a company they can call for you or something similar.

Maybe too late but there are several hotels by the airport including the one between the two terminals and Ramada.
