Yuyuan Bazaar
Chenghuang Miao was a little local market which has become what they call today the Yuyuan Bazaar.
Today here you can find a big shopping centre and lots of little shops and stalls selling all sort of souvenirs and everyday items.

The Rayfont apartments(formerly Summit Service Apartments), are an absolutely great place to stay in Shanghai, especially for tourists who intend to explore this great city. The apartments are in great condition and centrally located on YanAn Road west in Changning,Shanghai. The location of this property has a traveler within a short hop to all the city's biggest attractions. I spent a month at the Rayfort and recommend it to everyone who plans to visit Shanghai. The centre of the city is this area. It's a short taxi to People's Square(a must see), The Shanghai Museum, Yu Gardens, Nanjing Road or Xintiandi(the French quarter).
Unique Quality: This property was being renovated while we were there, so the roof-top lounge was closed. The best this with the Rayfort is the location, the space of an apartment, and being able to utilize a kitchen. There is a resturant attached to the complex, as well as resturants directly across the street and a block behing the Regent Hotel(which is besides the Rayfont). These are good and well priced resturants should you wish to dine-out for all meals. But being a western tourist, you'll find you will want food on your own western schedual. For these two reasons alone i'd recommend the Rayfont Apartments.

hello there, i'm coming to shanghai next month with a group tour. the agent suggest us to stay at gang hong hotel but we don't know anything about the hotel and we couldn't find any review on the internet. is any of my friends vt-ers here knows anything about the hotel please inform me? thanks a lot.
btw, i found hang gong hotel more often in the internet, but i think it's a different hotel isn't it?
I think there's something wrong with your search keywords, perhaps? This hotel is located at 501 Wuning Lu. The nearest metro stop is Fengqiao Lu on line 11, or (slightly more useful) Caoyang Lu on lines 3,4 & 11.
In addition, it has its own website (in Chinese): http://www.ganghonghotel.com.cn
And, it's listed on TripAdvisor with 10 user reviews! --> http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g308272-d578249-Reviews-Ganghong_Hotel-Shanghai.html
Anyway, I wouldn't pick to stay here. Not really what I consider centrally-located and accesible, and there's nothing of interest in the area.
thank you ellyse .. don't know why i couldn't find gang hong more easily than hong gang .. and at first i thought they were the same premises ..
this is going to be our first visit to shanghai and we will focus our trip to the world expo. do you have any suggestion for hotel alternatives? similar class and similar price range will be appreciated .. as you might like to know, we love to enjoy people's daily life, traditional architecture and houses, cultural landscape .. oh, and we are in a group of 25+ people; i hope it won't be a problem to get hotel rooms?
Better be mentally prepared to spend a few days at the World Expo if you really want to see a decent number of the pavilions, on the inside. Queues for admission can start at 2 hours each and go up to 4 or even more hours.
You didn't name your price range per person, nor dates of stay? Sounds like you'll like staying in the French Concession.
You can email me directly at ellyse99@yahoo.com -- put "VirtualTourist" and your own username (eg snailmail) in the subject line.
I recommend 2 nice economy hotels with good location. The standard of the hotel can peer or better than the Ganghong hotel. But definitly superior in location. 1. Shanghai Boying Holiday Hotel RMB200-600/ per room per night 2. Rayfont Shanghai Hotel & Apartment rate RMB300-1000/Per room per night
I'm not usually a fan of either, but out of those two, Rayfont would be better especially if you're mainly here for the Expo.
thank you for all advices. we will consider those two hotels mentioned .. ellyse, we may email you for more details, thank you.

Xin Ji Shi (New Jesse) has several branches throughout the city. The Xintiandi branch is popular and you may have to queue to get in during weekends and evenings. The menu is classic Shanghainese, with a particularly good selection of cold dishes. Food quality is excellent and portions good. Seating is spread over two floors - it is slightly crammed on the ground floor. Prices are slightly higher than similar establishments, but actually reasonable considering its Xintiandi location. The classic dishes, e.g. kaofu, salty chicken and the "village" chicken soup.
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Asia with it's 20,000 square meters. It's a modern and very nice nice building - from inside as well as outside - but it was probably one of the most expensive sites that I entered in Shanghai. The entrance costs you RMB 110. Despite of the price, I found the visit worth-while. The aquarium is divided into numerous zones, each displaying hundreds of different specimens.
Shanghai is truely the proof of the materialism's existance in China. It has been a world class city in the early 20th century. Westerners roamed the streets of Shanghai back then. In the new millennium, the history repeats itself. Foreigners flocked to Shanghai to seek an open door to China. The development of Pudong new commercial district invited foreign investors to help create a new era in an old city. After more than 15 years of developing, Shanghai today has one of the world's most beautiful skyline. The Bund is still the place to visit as the old western architecture still stand proudly along the Huangpu river.
