This depends on what you want. If you want pearls, you should go to the First Asia Jewelry Plaza near the YuYuan gardens (288 Fuyou St). But for fashion, I believe you mean the Xiangyiang Market. It is at Huaihai Road and the intersection of Xiangyiang street. It is ann outdoor market and only open through June '06 when it will be shut down (or more likely relocated).

Is the First Asia Jewelry Plaza near YuYuan Gardens a real wholesale market ?? or is it retail ?? I would like to go the pearl wharehouses or factories for the wholesale price... Thanks for your help...

In China, unless you are Chinese AND in an industry, you are not going to find the wholesale price. But everything is negotiable! The markets are retail. But negotiate and be sure you know what you are buying and what a good price should be. You will find Pearls much lower in cost if you negotiate wisely and IF you really understand pearls. I paid much less than some people I traveled with but I know pearls and I know how to bargain. However, I bought pearls this year in Beijing because I got really good prices there.
For comparison I was taken by an official tourist guide to a store for pearls that was supposed to be the bargain place and gov't approved. It was multiple times more expensive than the places I negotiated. If you want more help, post and I'll give you more tips

A little architectural quirk
by mke1963
If you are in People's Square, look to the south-east corner, where there is a tall non-descript thin, modern skyscraper - Harbour Ring Plaza. It's a slightly odd shape and clad in silver panels lower down.
It's not widely known that this is designed by the same studio that designed most of the classic huge buildings along the Bund, including the Peace Hotel.
The architectural studio of Palmer & Turner designed most of the Bund 'greats' but left Shanghai after the Communist Revolution. They continued in Hong Kong and returned to Shanghai in the 1980s. The first building designed on their return was Harbour Ring Plaza.
Just wanted to share that little snippet with you!
Shanghai Maglev Train from Pudong airport
by MikeySoft
.
Maglev Demonstration Line from Pudong International Airport to Longyang Road Metro Station
The 30-kilometer trip will take only eight minutes. However this is not a good destination unless you are staying in that area. Most people do not stay in that area. You have to change to the metro or change to a taxi.
The round trip ticket cost 80 rmb and the one way ticket cost 50 rmb. Passengers with current day flight ticket can buy a one way ticket of Maglev Train at 20% discount. You will need your ticket or boarding pass for the discount. Meglev personal are just outside of the luggage area and will help you to the train.
It may be interesting to take but not a real time saver.
I recommend taking a taxi from the airport. This is especially true if you have two or more people and luggage.
I'll have pictures after my next trip this May.
Please rate this and my other tips when you find then useful, interesting or you like the pictures

Well you might know this by now, but you cannot skip the Bund and Nanjing road. It's quite an experience to simply walk down Nanjing road, making your way through thousands of people. You'll find almost anything you need and there's a few McDonalds further down the road. (Although they're always EXTREMELY full)
Grand Theatre

A half-hour guided tour of the Grand Theatre brought us to the different theatre halls & an exhibit of Chinese musical instruments.
This newly built theatre has an amazing array of artists & shows - an upscale venue & spice of life in Shanghai.

"new building"
It was world's third tallest building. It was beautiful. You can visit there, and also you can have a rest there. From the top of the building you can see all the Shanghai city. To the north you can see the world's largest bridge. To the south is the world's third largest bridge. It is really a good place to visit.
