In the heart of it all

A decent and comfortable hotel right in the heart of the Shanghai shopping area.
It's walking distance from the Bund and from the French Concession area, as well as the Old Town District.

More about Seventh Heaven Hotel

Heavenly Shanghainese cuisine on Najing Road

by aukahkay about Old Shanghai Restaurant

The Old Shanghai Restaurant is located on the lobby level of the Seventh Heaven Hotel on Nanjing East Road pedestrian mall. The interior of the restaurant is brightly decorated in shades of yellow and the seats are comfortable sofa-like seats. If you are fortunate enough to have a window seat, you will have a great view of the Nanjing East Road pedestrian mall. Braised eel: This is a perennial Shanghainese favourite. For some, it may be too salty and oily.
Fish maw soup: This is a thick soup made of mashed fish bladder.

Hotels near shopping centres

by ranmeg

Hi,
I shall be going to Shanghai for a holiday in December. The airline has a package that puts me up at North Square Hotel or Yuan Bo Hotel. Where are they situated? Are they far from the shopping centres?
Can anyone recommend a clean, 3-star hotel that is within walking distance to the shopping areas?
Thanks.

Both hotels are near the city center and convenient to shopping areas. North Square Hotel is a bit north of center. Yuan Bo Hotel is a bit southwest of center. There are so many high tone shopping areas in Shanghai that I don't think you will have any trouble spending your money. Take light-rail in minutes to almost any shopping area for 3 kwai (about $0.28) or a taxi for 11 kwai ($1.50). My, but they have high room rates. Must be nice. I haven't stayed in a hotel in Shanghai because I live and work here but I see now I can't afford it. I must confess the last time I bargained for a room was in Qinghai Province; I paid less than half of the posted rate and the room was splendid. Why make a reservation when you can make a negotiation?

What's your budget like? I could find quite a number around Nanjing Lu to choose from.

Thanks Ellyse. I appreciate it. My budget is probably around RMB500.

I meant RMB500 per night.

In that case, I'd definitely highly recommend Seventh Heaven Hotel which's located on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street, a stone's throw away from Henan Zhonglu metro stop thus facilitating transport around to most places that you'll want to go to. If you need help making a booking, feel free to let me know by VTMail and I'll try my best to help. :)

Sorry, no idea about that one at all, nor Yuan Bo Hotel.
