The Undergrond Music Scene
by Anniexpat
I arrived in Shanghai last week, and found this venue down the road from my university. Its located right next to West Yanan road metro stop line 3/4 at the edge of this beautiful park called Tian Shan Park. It's a great place if you love discovering new underground bands and cheap beer.
Yu Yin Tang is one of the oldest underground live music houses in shanghai, and has become a staple in Shanghai. Featuring regular gigs every weekend, It brings in underground acts both worldwide and local. There's something different every night of the month. This place has it all: cheap drinks, great atmosphere, friendly staff and a knack for booking the top up and coming Indie acts around!!!
Upcoming bands to check out: I really dig the group coming on the 21st

THE METRO - Shanghai Subway & LIght Rail System
by MaosRedArmy
Shanghai currently has two subway lines - Line 1 & Line 2. Line 1 (known as The Red Line) runs north and south in the old city (PuXi), while Line 2 (the Green Line) cuts West to East across PuXi, goes under the river and cuts across Pu Dong.
Shanghai has agressive plans for its underground and has 11 new lines planned for completion by 2025.
There is also a light rail line (above ground), which is known as Line 3, the "Pearl Line", or the "Blue Line".
The Metro is a very easy and cost-effective way to get around Shanghai. However, if you need to get to someplace far from a Metro stop, I suggest usting the Metro to get you close and then take a taxi the rest of the way.
One-way fares range from 2RMB to 4RMB, depending on how far you are travelling.
I personally avoid the Metro during rush hour as it is simply way too crowded for my liking.
Promenade from colonial times

The Bund offers a beautiful skyline of colonial buildings in European style. To the other side of the Huangpu River you have a nice view to the modern side of Shanghai, the skyline of Pudong, the finacial center.
Buidings on the Bund: Shanghai Custom House
by socrates_07
This building is also called Jiang Hai Custom House (actually its the original name). Whenever I saw any photos of the Bund it was a picture of the Shanghai Custom Hause with it´s classic and Renaissance style. It was built from 1925 - 1927.
