Shanghai Laurel Hotel

My stay in the Shanghai Laurel Hotel

I arrived at this hotel at 2 o clock in the morning as I arrived on a red eye flight. Given the time of the flight all the banks and money changers in the airport were closed for the night. So it was decided that I take taxi to the hotel and change my money there so that I can pay for the taxi. Much to my surprise they were not allowed to do any foreign exchange transactions. So I guess it would be advisable to have some Remimbi before flying in.

Another problem that I experienced on the way to hotel was locating the hotel. It looks like this hotel is relatively unknown so it would be advisable to have either the phone number of the hotel so that your cab driver can ask directions or you can print put a map as well as the address in Mandarin.

Hotel staff did a great job in keeping everything nice and tidy. In terms of facilities there is not much in terms of that. There is no pool, game room or gym. The only significant facilities are the business centre and the "Lucky Corner" restaurant both located in the ground floor. The restaurant only opens at 10 AM so unless you have brunch you need to find another place to eat you breakfast.

The rooms are furnished well enough. You have the basic fixtures and a clean bathroom. Cable TV is available which has HBO, Cinemax, CNN and a few sports channels. In room internet via wi-fi is also available.

The hotel is located near Nanjing Road, which is the main shopping street in Shanghai. It is also near the Shanghai Museum. It is also near the People's Square Metro station which is the main station in Shanghai.

If you are not very particular about your accomodations then this is your hotel

Unique Quality: There is also a good view of the city including the Pearl TV Tower from the lifts.
