questions about these ff places in Shanghai:

by guo_mei_xin

Are the following places worth going (I mean, literally going in these places, and not just viewing these from outside):
1) Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei
2) Longhua Temple and PAgoda
3) Zhongshan Park
4) Shanghai Zoo
5) Qibao
6) Shanghai Exhibition Center
7) Jian An Temple
8) JAde Buddha Temple
9) Moganshan Road Art Center
10) Shanghai Aquarium
11) Oriental Pearl TV

Also, is River Promenade the same as Huangpu River Cruise? Is is worth it to go to Huangpu River Cruise?
Sorry if I have a lot of questions, I just want to maximize my stay here in Shanghai and avoid those places which are not worth it.

you did not indicate how many days you will be staying in Shanghai.
The usual "cannot miss" spots are the Bund, Jade Buddha Temple, Yu Garden, Shanghai Zoo (for the Panda), Nanjing Road.

I would add the Science and Technology Center in Pudong.

Most river cruises are a rip off, best to take a walk along the Bund, at the end you can catch the ferry for RMB 2 to cross over to the Pearl TV tower, walk around there (or go up the tower on a clear day) then return by subway.

How many days do you have in Shanghai?
Definitely skip Zhongshan Park, the Zoo and Jing'an Temple.
What do you mean by "Shanghai Exhibition Centre"? If it's not the "Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre" at People's Square, skip it.
No, the Riverside Promenade is a "Bund" on the Pudong side of Whampoa (Huangpu) River. It's definitely NOT the cruise!

I'll be here around 5 days. Is it enough? I don't want to do a "rush" travel around Shanghai, my feet hurts.. hahaha

Re: questions about these ff places in Shanghai:

More than enough. You should have enough time to explore Shanghai quite thoroughly at a leisurely pace.

Zhongshan Park is a nice little park with free admission. But it is nothing special and you can skip it.

Friends of mine who came to visit Shanghai with a tour group a few months ago had all the temple -shopping -nightlife stuff up to here so when I gave then a few choices for our one day together they picked Zhong Shan Park and they loved it. But they are nature lovers and people watchers. If you like to see the locals just hanging out and want pictures of daily life, it's great. If you crave the bright lights and glamour, you'll be bored.

Travel Tips for Shanghai

Making a Steven Speilburg movie

by herzog63

Steven Speilburg was filming "Empire of the Sun" while I was in Shanghai. One of the days was very interesting as I kept coming across different "movie props" that I thought were real!! LOL When I saw this movie marquee for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" I thought that it had run non-stop since the 1930's!! ahahha I was going to check it out...I also came across an old Texaco sign and in 1987 There weren't any of these foreign companies in China so that was a prop too...The foreign companies were just starting to get back in at this time. Well that sign was a movie prop also. In the evening I watched the Bridge scene being filmed as I stood up on the hill above the Wusong River. It was pretty interesting to see. This was so cool...I was disappointed that it wasn't a real movie house!

The place is nestled in People's Park, and has an incredible atmosphere to it. At times I forgot that I was in China. The place has a Middle Eastern feel to it with nice plush comfy couchs, and hookah pipes. You can take a seat on beautiful wrought iron chairs, with mosaic tiled tables over looking the peaceful pond. We were there one night when it was rainiing, and it was extremely tranquil, as long as you didn't look to high, and see the tall buildings above the treeline. =)
Happy Hour I think was between 5-8:30 PM drinks half price...
And for some strange reason I didn't take any pictures of the place itself, tooooooo caught up in HAPPY HOUR I guess!!!!!!

Well-Hidden Cafe

by nomadig about Bonomi Cafe

The most well hidden cafe that I have encountered so far is located near the Bund in Shanghai. Café Bonomi is on the second floor in a building hosting a bank and Virgin Airlines office. There is a small advert on the door, and you can easily walk past it, if you are not paying attention. Hint: the building looks like Whitehall.

To get to the cafe, climb up to the second floor and follow the signs to navigate the corridors. Remember that you need to climb one set of stairs to get to the ground floor and then still two sets for the second floor -- somebody could rightly say that it's the fourth floor, but let's follow the floor numbers of the building.

The cafe itself is Italian, and you can expect excellent coffee and sandwiches. If the weather is nice, go to the terrace to avoid the constant smoking of Chinese bureacrats killing some time in the cafe. The prices are comparable to the rest of the cafes around the town.

Spectacular views at night

by Lionshart

My hotel was 4 minutes walk from the Bund. The Bund promenade is a walkers paradise, hugging the shore of the busy Huangpu River and presenting panoramic views of the old Shanghai immediately west and new Shanghai on the eastern shore. Nearly everyone who comes to The city walks the length of this embarkment. River cruises depart almost hourly from the docks on its southern end. The views at night of the Bund and Pudong ( oriental pearl tv tower, jin mao tower & other skyscrappers) while walking the promenade are truely spectacular and must not be missed.

Ah, the beautiful weather I was treated to in the other city of lights. River-riding.

Yuyuan gardens, splendid. Walk through the gardens and enjoy with people from all over the world. I got to hear partial tours of the place in at least 3 different languages.

Since I really know nothing about how to photo edit, free drinks at my restaurant in new orleans to the person who can best edit my ex out of the picture. I can't help but love this shot of Shanghai at night.
