A Popular Ex-Pat Neighborhood Bar
by Paul2001 about Oscar's Pub
This is another pub set in a old transformed house. This is often the case with the bars in the French Concession. The decor of Oscar's Pub is less atmospheric than nearby O'Malley's. This is probably because the clientele is less of the affluent business people from abroad with a big expense account. Instead the people you encounter here are expat locals out for a beer with the mates. Hence I thought this place had a less pretentious feel. This pub has a very small patio.

by lindyz about Starbucks at Yu Yuan Gardens
On our second last day in Shanghai we got a taxi to Yu Yuan Gardens. This place is amazingly beautiful, please read my tip on it.
BUT ... this tip is about about lunch at Yu Yuan Gardens. We explored all Chinese Options, but decided on Starbucks! Mainly because we really felt like a good coffee, but their light snack menu looked ok as well. I had a chicken caesar salad wrap and an iced hazelnut latte for a total cost of only 50rmb = about $8AUD. I thought that was pretty good value and the wrap was simply divine! Starbucks was located outside the actual Gardens, in the Bazaar area, but I couldnt tell you exactly where!
"Cheng Huang" or City God Temple
by xuessium
This is a place packed to the brim and I meant it. It's like the entire populace of Shanghai has decided to descend upon one spot. Crowded with locals and visitors, you'll rub shoulders with everyone else.
Located within the Yu Yuan Bazaar shopping complex, unlike the surrounding faux Ming-Qing Yangtze Riverstyle buildings constructed in l994, this is an authentic temple first constructed during the reign of Ming Emperor Yong Le (1403~1424). It was renovated in 1926 and again in 1994. During the Cultural Revolution it was a factory, but reopened as a temple after the 1994 renovations of the Yu Yuan Bazaar. This Taoist temple is dedicated to the City God Qin Yu Bo, but also serves as a place of Taoist worship.
Street stalls, shops and restaurants aplenty to amuse you as well.

"Shanghattan"
Shanghai is nothing like the rest of China. it's like a colorful, bubbly manhattan with a touch of science fiction and a drop of colonial nostalgia -now does that make any sense...?
It is a MUST to visit Shanghai if one picks a few major chinese cities, if only to witness the maximum concentration of the change between the old and the new China. And to have fun, as it probably still is the coolest place in terms of urban pleasures+nightlife.
