One thing you will never forget after you visit Shanghai ... the food! It's hard to avoid the thousands of dishes you've never seen before. I guarantee that you will find yourself in a true culinary experience. Ask your tour guide or the locals and they will introduce you to lots of classic Shanghai dishes. From seafood to meat to vegetables to soups and noodles, you definitely should plan on trying some new dishes. Eating is part of the travel!
Taxi in Shanghai

This picture should tell you what customer rights we are entitled to when travelling in taxi in Shanghai. Ohh, the taxi all run on meters and do not hop on those without meters. Just walk away if they want to abide by their own quote.
Great local food!
by rabbit06 about Shanghai Tiandu Hotel Restaurant
A very typical style of restaurant that you find in Shanghai with a ambience that say's yes we are in China! This hotel restaurant is on three or four levels and while we lunched the first floor was fully booked catering a wedding. All of the dishes are great local style of cooking from duck, pork, chicken, fish, jelly fish, crab, frog and some veg which Shirley loves!....... and who ordered the beef?.......lol
Nanjing Lu
by socrates_07
The most famous road for shopping is the Nanjing Road.
But this street has its own history as well. Like the drama of Shanghai in 1925.
In the past several years it has changed to a new face, with old brand stores and restaurants. New shopping malls have mushroomed, offering customers with modern and pleasant shopping environment.
Shanghai of my Dreams

"Shanghai"
As a kid I used to love watching the old Black & White movies about China and Shanghai!! Just hearing the word "Shanghai" sounded so exotic to me! And it still does. Hearing about somebody getting Shanghai'ed etc...So when I decided to go to China for a month I made sure that Shanghai was on the list of places to visit! I didn't want to get Shanghai'ed though! LOL I was probably expecting Humphrey Bogart to hop of some ship with fog all around and say "Where ya headin kid"? I didn't run into Humphrey but I had a blast! I loved wandering around the old parts of the city! Some of my favorite spots where along the Wusong River where alot of the barges are docked. And the alleyways and small streets near the Wuxinting teahouse. I seemed to see the city in Black and White for some reason! I think my brain transformed to the 1940's and Shanghai itself helped me to vision it that way! It was fairly cold and dreary most of the 5 days that I spent in Shanghai. From what I have read here on VT in think Shanghai has changed alot since 1987! The Pudong Dadao wasn't much more than Marsh land and now it has loads of Skyscrapers built in the area so I'm told! I hope you like the black & white photos. They add to the charm for me.
