door open when using toilet
by pleasebenice
You might be surprised when you see chinese women using toilet. Most of them not close the door. Most of the time they don't flush. BUT it is their way of living.. it's been this way for a long time.. it will be changed, I hope.
taxis in shanghai
by concorde7
taxis are very cheap in shanghai but i would warn any first comers regarding taxi drivers trying to rip you off. best advice , before you leave your hotel , ask how much it will cost you, i have taken 20 times a taxi in 5 days and 2 of them tried to rip me off. they basically give you a tour of the city. so be warned. i am not saying that every taxi driver is malicious but you will be a good target especially if you don't know the area at all. also taxi drivers in shanghai drive like lunatics , it is easy to wear your seat belt when you are seating at the frot but seating at the back the seatbelts are usually stuck behind the seats , meaning you cannot use them! better to have a good insurance policy!! joking!
Great for lunch or dinner!
by rabbit06 about Xindi Hong Kong Style Restaurant
This is a chain of restaurants with very pleasant surroundings, good service, comfortable and the beers are cold! The pricing is very good, 18 rmb will get you an average dish so this is very popular with the locals! We had an assortment of plates here which Shirley enjoyed and Rabbit would recommend the noodles, they were typically Hong Kong.... fantastic, even though the beef was also nice!
The Shanghai Grand Theatre...
by alwaysatya
The Shanghai Grand Theatre (People's Square)
Located in the northwest of People's Square is the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This dazzling new building was designed by a French architect who came up with a complete design scheme including materials and lighting. The building seems to be made almost entirely from glass and the reflections of artificial and natural light are simply stunning. The structure of the Grand Theatre is simple but smooth and compliments the flush lines of the museum and the polished look of the exhibition Hall at the opposite end of the Square. The roof of the building is an upturned arc, resembling a treasure bowl and said to symbolize Shanghai's openness and progressive spirit.

I was only in Shanghai for about four days, and two of them were extra because my ticket was cancelled. Still I think it is a nice modern city that I would like to visit again. This photo shows a typical sky in China - I didn't see a blue sky during the two weeks I stayed there!
